In the 60's Mad magazine was my favorite. Living in a remote backwoods area of Michigan, it was along with
CARTunes my connection to pop culture...

Mad mag was where I learned strange things like: don’t trust the AMA, Kent cigarettes were deadly, all the names for hamburger, cheating at cards, and an appreciation for fine cartoon art.

I had reprint collections going back into the 50’s.

As a kid, I was a big fan of Jaffee and remember having some of his paperbacks. Here is the interesting fact about him that I only discovered a moment ago. He was born right here in Savannah, GA back in 1921

Loved MAD back in the 60's when I was an impressionable teenager and MAD was far and away the best magazine out their. I loved the magazines totally creative and irrepressible approach to everything. Sorry to hear about Mr. Jaffee's demise and I miss those wonderful 60's MAD's.

He is survived by generations of endlessly sarcastic, now fully grown children who likely passed his teachings along, while proving laughter lends to longevity. Did anyone else learn the word "gesundheit" from Al's callbacks of germans sneezing in the margins or did one drawing just stick in my head because I was learning?

I well remember his send up of Star Trek.
