I want to use the original chrome Schwinn rims, but I need new tires. If I go with a 26x 2.125 on the rear what size do I need to order ? I know these early Schwinn rims are bigger than current rims.
It matters if they are Scwhinn S7 rims or S5 or S2. A couple of those require a Schwinn only sized tire. The other one can take a more common tire. Maybe some of the more astute Schwinn guys can speak to this, @schwinn boy , @schwinnbikebob or others?
Well I got my springer fork fabricated. I still have to machine some spacer bushings for the top shock mount. I built it out of a couple of early Schwinn forks. One fork was already bent and it sacrificed the tube for one of my other builds. The shock(if you want to call it that, actually just a spring holder) came off the rear swing arm on some cheap WalMart mountain bike. I had to replace the spring with a lot lighter spring, but it works.
Here’s a view on wheels. I want to build some kind of a single coil spring, front pivot, seat mount and incorporate the cast iron seat. Not sure what it’s off of, maybe a very early tricycle, not sure.
That fork is cool! I always appreciate seeing these 'custom' frame and fork designs in action, so I hope you do a video down the road for a test ride!

Thank you kind sir. My builds will never be up to the same level as yours, but I do enjoy building and I’m having fun.
Finally got my aluminum rims laced on my hubs and my tires mounted. I need to find a long pullback beach cruiser style handle bar. The one I have is just too short for my taste. Hopefully my seat mount will be machined this week so I can get it welded up as well.

It is and it hydraulically adjusts up and down. Christmas present from my loving wife. (She believes 4 wheels are safer for me than 2 wheels !)

normally i would whine about hacking up Schwinn forks, but that springer is the coolest thing I've ever seen without a v-twin engine behind it. totally worth it. if you decide you don't like it, let me know please!
You could always add some length to a set of bars by cutting the ends off another set and splicing them together. Mine were easy to do, and I don't have any welding skills like you do!
I was looking at your build and I might try the same , but first I need to get my seat mounted so I know just how much of a length I need.
I talked with my machinist friend yesterday and he told me he’s buried for the week as some manufacturer broke down and he has to machine a bunch of parts for them. Hope to get my seat mount next week so I can continue on with the build. So close !
Got my seat mount back from the machine shop. I welded the brackets on the frame and mounted the seat. The holes in the top bar give me roughly 7 inches of adjustment front to back and I can tighten or loosen the spring for a harder or softer ride. Now to sort out the chain and adjustment pulley and a chain guard.
