Hi everyone. I recently had replaced the stock handlebars on my Townie with the Electra ape hangers. The shop had to use a shim on the stem. Seemed ok at first but I've cranked down on the screws on the stem and I still get a little slipage on the handlebars. Any suggestions on on a replacement stem that will allow me to get rid of the shim? Thanks in advance.

How I finally fixed my ape handlebars moving was to put 8 tiny spots of weld 2 each 90 degrees on the knurled area of the bars. Then I ground the welds down till the bars could just be tapped into the stem.

here is an easy quick fix for these kinds of problems with apes.
cut an aluminum strip from a soda can. wrap the bars. clamp down. i have done that with every pair of apes and several pairs of bmx bars.

Don't have access to a welder other than by bringing it to a shop. But I like the aluminum can hack. I may give it a try. Thanks!!
