I am going to take my first bike I fixed up and completely redo it. It's a 1980 Schwinn Typhoon and it will be transformed into a Klunker!

I might even put a nexus 3 speed into it...

Anybody have a source for some quality 26" bmx style forks? The current forks will do, but I think some straight tubes would be better.

The before pic - soon to be completely dismantled

That will make a great clunker and if your interested I have a couple forks laying around hear, you can have one for the cost of shipping it

Very interested! What do you have?

Re: /Archie\

It'll make a nice klunker. If you change out the handlebars, I'd be interested in those old ones, and the stem too. Then all i'll need is a blue Schwinn S seat to complete my 80 Typhoon.

Re: /Archie\

Got the seat for my klunker today from harquahalas. It a Brooks Professional saddle. I also picked up a can of Proofhide for this saddle as well as my other two brooks in need of some care. I'm pretty sure it is liquid gold based on the cost. fortunately my local bike shop gave it to me half off.

for those who were wondering, Proofide is Tallow, Cod Oil, Vegetable Oil, Paraffin Wax, Beeswax and Citronella oil

Re: /Archie\

I guess what I am building is considered a Bomber and not a klunker...

So my name doesn't work anymore... Archie Klunker

Archie Bomber doesn't have the same ring to it :?

What to do?

Re: /Archie\

Keep your original name idea. 8) The original klunkers were single speeds. The additional gears were added as the bikes evolved.

Re: /Archie\ - Sticking a fork in it

Got a fork from Schwinnspastic. Has a few layers of paint on it, so It is soaking in stripper. Not sure how I am going to repaint it yet.

I'll make sure to check with you before transferring bicycle paraphernalia across state lines.

I got all the paint off. I'm thinking about jb welding a set of bar end caps on the bottom of the forks to seal them off.

Re: /Archie\ - Update 6/21

I test fit a few of the parts. Got the brooks on with a longer seatpost, test fit the wheels and fork. The tires on the bike will be changing to a set of Ritchey Moby Bite slicks. They are a 2.1 inch width. Paint will most likely be retouched and clearcoated. Might do an accent color on the forks or headtube. the crank and chainring will be changing too.
