Brad and Kat have been providing the world with many great ways to step into the custom built bike scene over the years. Several of the guys on this board and other boards owe a lot of their knowledge to the Atomic Zombie site and books. Atomic Zombie exists because of their love for helping people to take the first of many steps into DIY custom bicycles. Both Brad and Kat love to see all builds and how people take their plans and improve on them. Although I've never actually built a bike based on AZ plans, I do see their influence on several of my bikes. Something can be gleaned from everyone of their plans and modified into what the builder's needs are.
Although I've never personally met them, they help to support the FreakBike Nation, especially the FBM Golden Horseshoe Chapter. When I was in the hospital Brad, Kat and the other Zombies (just like Steve and some of you other Rats) were there to help Gigs and me through rough times. Thanks to all of you for providing a way for Gigs to take her mind off my problems.
I've seen many variations on the AZ plans and everyone of them has turned out to be very safe and enjoyable to ride. Brads plans are great for anyone starting out. They seem to help open your creatvity and inspire you to plunge deeper into our hobby. Brad has taken out alot of the "trial by error" method that many of us have used. His bikes and plans are (and always will be) the inspiration that gives people a push to try to build a cool bike with limited funds, knowledge or both.
Recently I was at the local Borders book store looking at magazines. I heard four kids oohing and ahhing over some pictures in a book. When one of them said something like,"look at that big tire, I wonder how you'd ever peddle it." I knew exactly what they where looking at ...... "OverKill"! Before I knew it I had made four new friends, got to tell of my experiernce with AZ and the bikes they inspired, and passed out a few FreakBike Nation cards! These guys and possibly some of their friends say they are gonna show at our next ride in the Flint area. Even if they don't, Brad and Kat planted the seed now we'll see how it grows!
So as you can see I am a big fan of the Zombie experience! Brad and Kat are just a couple of great people who have become part of my ever expanding extended family.
