   Oh no.........you're on to me :D. It also fits in nicely with the curved shape of the triple tree plates/crowns. Still gotta find a good place to mount the speedometer as well. I have to try and find some copper pipe the right diameter and thickness for a set of grips as well......I'm going to give them a stippled finish similar to the tank.

I wasn't going to start the springer until later in the build, but seeing as a couple of different ideas I had have already been used in this build-off, I thought I'd get this one "out there". Any good bareknuckle brawler knows it's good to get the first hit in  .

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Springer parts

Off topic, but the reason I couldn't get any bike work done for the last couple of days.

I'm playing percussion and some drums in the band for my school's musical (High School Musical). It's seven piece, with 5 students and 2 teachers playing. Two 8 hour rehearsal days this week-end, with 2 more over the next 3 weeks, then 4 performances on 17 and 18 June......Brainfried!!!!

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Bars and stems sorted!!

I picked up a pair of stems and trial fitted them with the bars. I'm still not sure if they'll stay under the top plate or go on top of it when I build the springer. I'll try out both positions and see which one looks best. The shock will be sitting out towards the front more as well......just got it sitting there at the moment.

Some cool bar end caps would look cool plugged in next to those stems.

This is looking very interesting.... will the metal rod running through the top of the spring go into the ends of the handlebars??

Cheers,
Dr. T

Dr.T, I'm not sure exactly how I'm gonna mount the top of the shock. If I look at it for long enough, it'll come to me.....it's just hanging there in the pic with a long allen key through it.

The bars will be capped.....I have a couple of ideas for them.

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Braking News!!!

Not much of an update. I made a mount for the coaster brake arm.......still gotta weld it on to the frame though. Work has been full on for me the past week with staff meetings, school expo, and musical rehearsals, so not much bike work for me :( . I'm still looking at the front end and just about have the springer worked out.......I think :? . I hope to get the tank brazed together this week, so will post some pics as I do that.

Haha...
It took me 10 minutes to figure what was so 'braking' about the news...

Much respect for good teachers btw.
I'm guesing you're one?

Yes herr_rudolf, I'm a teacher. My main teaching area is Manual Arts (Shop), but I also teach Agricultural Science, and have been teaching a Music class this year.....Sorry about the bad pun :) .

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Sidetracked

As if I didn't have enough on already, I asked my 9 year old if he wanted us to build a new bike for the upcoming car show. Of course the reply was yes :D . He won the lowrider section last year and is keen to have another go this year. We had a look around the net for some pics and he liked a lot of the lowered and raked frames we saw, so...........my first cut and hack!! Didn't take any before or during pics because I started cutting then got carried away.....it all happened in a couple of hours last night.
Started out as a $10 garage sale Bratz bike. I cut a couple of inches out of the top of the seat stays and dropped it lower, then chopped off the head tube and added a bit of rake. My son will pick the colour and work out what parts he wants to use, sand the frame for painting and clean and fit all the parts and pack bearings etc. I'll do the painting and check all the nuts and bolts to make sure everything is OK.

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - Got tube!

Went and picked up some tube for the springer. 31.8mm for the main legs and 19mm for the moving leg (I'm not really sure what the correct name for it is  ). I'm gonna bend the 19mm to 180degrees using the packed sand method, and will do a step by step how-to. Probably won't be for a while though as I'm taking my wife to a concert this week-end and will be away for a few days.

Yeah...........Grade 9, the worst 15 years of my life :D  .

Nah, the Musical Director couldn't get a student percussionist, so I got the gig.

Re: Bareknuckle Brawler - New springer part!

I found an old tube bender in the bottom of a locker at work and tried it out today. Worked very well, and saves me from packing the tube with sand and heat bending :D .

Did a quick mock up when I got home to see how it looks and to start working out mounting brackets and rocker length. It's being held in place in the pics with cable ties, a bit of tomato stake and a socket, but it's good enough to give a general idea of how it's gonna look........Pretty happy with it :D

I still haven't had a chance to do the welding and cleaning up of the frame yet, so I'm still using the green frame for mock ups. I've also gotta make some new main fork legs a litter longer than these.
