Thanks! I've been kinda slacking on the build, went for a great ride with my NERRB buddies Saturday and rode the dirt bike Sunday. I need to get the wheels assembled so I can check chain length and chain line, see how the fender fits and figure out final chain guard mounts. First step is gonna be getting this nasty silver paint off the rims...

i need to scrape, grind, prime and paint outside so of course it's gonna rain here all week The good news is unless I find something awesome at the swap meet this Sunday I have all the parts collected for this bike. Thanks to Marius I have an Elgin head badge

I'm gonna assume it's an Elgin since that's what it says on the brake arm, and the badge mounting holes line up, good enough for me! Also got a seat post from Porkchop

so once the weather cooperates I'll start getting the paint off the rims and frame...

I didn't bother to take pictures of paint removal, or paint installation on the rims, did that Thursday and let the paint dry in front of the furnace all weekend now it's time to assemble the wheels

I need to do the rear one first so I can test fit the rest of the parts

next step will be assembling and adjusting the hubs then truing the wheels... I also sprayed the head badge with some oven cleaner and hit it with steel wool

this will go much better with the color combo I have planned for this bike

Wow I've been slacking on posting updates! Been wicked busy at work lately but I have been picking at this thing a little at a time, got the hubs assembled

and the wheels trued

has to dig out and take apart another bike to swipe the tires I'm gonna use. The 26 tooth sprocket is too big to fit in the chain guard

but luckily I've got a 23 tooth one that will work

I've also managed to get all the paint off the frame, fork and fender

if I didn't build a bare metal bike last year I'd be leaving it like this, but I'm gonna paint it, hopefully this weekend. Stay tuned....

Got some paint on it Saturday and let it dry in front of the furnace until tonight

installed the fender, bearing cups, fork, kickstand and chain tensioner bolts

and put the head badge on with some brass screws

I bought this crank from Stevil at the Wethersfield swap last year, dug it out when I thought I might build a klunker and decided I wanted to use it anyway cuz it's different

and the skiptooth chainring fit, but the crank arm holds the chain ring on and the cone threads on from the other side and the space in between puts the chain line too far out

I don't want to put any extra stress on an old chain and I don't have easy access to a lathe anymore, but a search of my crank bearing pile revealed a cone that was countersunk in the back

problem solved and crank installed. I didn't want to use BMX pedals on this bike, I found these 9/16 block pedals in my favorite bike shop's used parts pile for 5 bucks

I hope to get more done on Saturday, but it's starting to come together....

Rustoleum calls it khaki, it's kind of a tan color, I wanted something that would go with the brown seat and grips, and cream colored tires...

Thanks you guys, got next to nothing done this weekend, busy doing maintainence on motorcycles, but I did take care of a couple details; I rounded off the edge of the fender before I painted it so it looks a little less like I hacked it in half

and I cut this out of an old street sign, stole the idea from my favorite modern store-bought cruiser, the Felt deep six

I cut the straps out of a sheet of scrap copper and used brass screws and acorn nuts from the hardware store to attach it

next step will be making chain guard mounts and installing the wheels, stay tuned
