What if I modified a frame a year ago, can i use it... I wont be modifying it further, let me know. I just cut the cantilever portion off.

3. Must use factory frame....no altering of original frame structure
(grinding off fender tabs and cutting seat tube height is okay, just no major frame design changes). :? Seems borderline, kind of major, kind of minor. :? Lucky me, I don't have to decide.

If I married my high school sweetheart from Wellfleet and then divorce her, will my ex-mother inlaw still be my aunt?

Yeah Graylock, she's still your aunt. Find yourself another mother inlaw.

I got my tires a couple of days ago,got all excited to put them on the rims ....and they are tight, ripped a new tube, and then I was starting to work on my fork and then realized its bent so I am still trying.....

Sorry to hear that, man. I know you'll pull through with something. Make the best of what you got!

Still working on mine, I've got ideas for the tank, seat, wheels, shifter, and brakes, but I'm lacking in the money department... I also need to figure out how to attatch a suicide shifter to the huge tubes on the OCC frame. I may have to fabricate some sort of clamp and bracket, and of course, it has to be sturdy.

I've got a unique idea for a shifter, though... I don't think I've seen anybody combine a suicide brake and shifter into one lever. How about I make a shifter with a brake lever on it, laid out something like this? (obviously longer and maybe with a wood handle)

Anybody seen this done before? if not, I CLAIM IT! :D

i have seen it done on harleys but no not on a bike. good idea just remember where to grab or pull when you stop. as for my bike and being 1/2 tanked the bike is sorta 3/4 tanked and i am fully tanked  as always

i think what you've seen is an extended(from the foot to hand)gear shift lever with the clutch lever attached to it.

yes it does look similar to the prior pic.

True, the functions may not be the same, but I'll come up with something along these lines. Possibly even a "faux-jockey" shifter, which is an idea I ripped off from the unicyclist world... they mount a brake lever under the front of the seat using a regular aluminum bar end mounted to the seatpost. I might still have to use a regular shifter and brake lever, but it would be an interesting mounting method...

Something like this, but longer, and I might even be able to mount it somewhere else on the frame... having a huge post sticking straight out from under the seat would be rather, um... suggestive.

lately I've had less time to goof around on the internet, so it's been hard to keep up with all of the builds (and there are a LOT of builds!), but I've been trying to check out as many as I can, there are so many good ideas taking place, so many cool bikes being built, and what's great to see is that there are different people with the same basic frame to start with all going in completely different directions with their builds, a testament to the diversity within our ranks! Cheers!

Clock is ticking... looks like I might have to rock a coaster brake on the chop-o-matic, since I probably won't have the money in time to build some nice wheels for it. I'll probably do it right down the road, but if I can't come up with cash in the next week, I have no choice but to put a set of plain cruiser wheels on it. Painted, of course. ;)

well, I made it through a bit over half of the build threads. wow the field is big!! I can't wait to see what comes out of it. I really like the one with all the mesh, and the big guy who's building the Zep frame. I was so excited when I got my Zep and then I noticed how small they were and was crushed. I also am interested in seeing what the young guy has in store for us in that Columbia he's building! I hate to admit it but I'm looking forward to getting crushed by a 9 year old Rat Rodder
I think today is the day for the late 4th of July fireworks. we're going to see how well Schwinns burn! I hope it comes out as expected, this could go horribly wrong
I'll post photos either way
good luck everyone, they're looking great so far!!

yep this is crunch time. that time when if you have not done the major things you wanted done you have to pick and choose wisely to get it done. i sorta miss how the early build offs i think we only had like 2 months to build the bike so it was much more of a challenge to get it done in time. on the flip side the new lay out is challenging too because i think a lot of us got a lot done early then procrastinated thinking we had all the time in the world then have all realized at once that it is just around the corner. all i can say is great work by all and good luck to those who are still wrenching, welding, grinding, priming, painting, striping, lacing, sanding.......well you get the idea GET ER' DONE!!!!!!!!
