we I am going with different route this time around for a build.
i have acquired a cheap junk and useless kids 16 inch huffy bike that I have stripped for parts.
the frame is rusting away in my yard so I decided it is time to either get rid of it or do something with it
the frame has the typical bmx style to it so when I was looking at it it hit me pit bike!!!
I know it is not a gt or mini predator which I would love to get my hands on but I can make it cool with 16 inch skyway mags t bars and a layback seat post and bmx plastic seat
of course I will not be riding his bike but I will be putting it somewhere in my house and maybe let my girls ride it If they choose to do so.
I will be checking round for the parts I need I know it will take awhile but I got nothing but time so why not
I will dig out the frame I will be using later today for pics i think I have a fork as well I can use as well.
this is kind of the style I am going with only want to put mags on it

more updates soon

The pick of the pit bike is sweet looking..
I also did a 16" pit bike just by using parts that I had laying around and I came up with this.. Oh and I ride this little guy too.. Haha
dang that's almost exactly what I had in mind great minds thin alike
lol I am 5 11 and 450 so I don't know if I can ride mine but I will try

well as promised here is my starting point fresh from the junk pile the red frame is the frame I will be using for this build it's ugly rusty and a cheap huffy but I like the challenge of making it cool
these are the forks I will be using they already have a hole for front brakes so that's a plus

well... now the fun begins... going thru my parts collection to see what I can and cannot use most likely none of it will be used but I do have a pair of purple handlebars from a girls bike I scrapped that I might be able to make work.

well after digging thru my parts pile and being stung by a darn wasp twice ( just my luck they like me so much they needed to bite me two times instead of once lol ) I dug out the bars and some other miscellaneous parts and dug thru my bearing collection.

and then right off to assembly and mockup to see what will work and what won't I ran into a problem getting the rear caliper brakes thru the hole on the frame so I may have to clean that up a bit but the front brakes fit.
here is what I got so far.

I am going to swap the stem for a double stem and of course the wheels have to go their just there for mocking up.
I am going to run a sugino crankset on it not sure what sprocket I will run but them sugino cranks are die hard I used to run them back when I raced and they never failed.
I also discovered the seat post is jammed in there good so I am going to have to spray some wd.40 on it and loosen it up then I will decide if I am going to buy one or have one made from slowriderz aka chad im gearing more towards chad because he does amazing work and I like the fact that he can custom make one to my specs.
the pad will not stay on it is just there to see what it will look like with pads on it.
more updates soon but that's all I got for now

I have also decided a paintjob is in order here I am thinking a cheap silver spraybomb and add some old school bmx decals to it.
but that's down the road once I get the parts I need.

while my wife removes the decals form the frame I am looking at parts to decide what I want to put on it.
I recall these sprockets called toiga compact disc that looked cool
so here is what I am thinking of running up front with some sugino crank arms arms
and the crankarms I may run

next is deciding on pedals and of course wheels and seat and seat post like I said a lot of work to do but it will be sweet when finished

progress is going well so far but t got too hot so I took a break plus I ran out of parts I did get the seat post out and my wifes been removing the decals I did find a rusty spot on the bottom bracket im a little concerned with but I will see what it looks like after I clean it up
more updates soon

Glad you got the seatpost out!

Luke.
thanks luke
yep after spraying a lil wd 40 on the post and using brute force it came loose and I got it out completely
I put it back in a little bit just to show it is out but im not keeping this seatpost
my wife has been removing the decals but then I got the not s bright idea to use a grill brush and scrape them off :headbang:
needless to say it made a mess so I will need to buy some goo gone and finish removing them
this is becoming a family ordeal me my wife and my 12 year old daughter are all wrenching away on it
which makes me think I will call it family matter
heres the current state it's getting there but still needs work.

Removing stickers is a chore! A heat gun helps to remove the sticker but the glue remains. Goo gone or lacquer thinner works pretty good but it is a lot of work.
