Agreed ^. A good undercoat is the aluminum flashing paint made by Rustoleum too. It's usually brown or reddish brown, and holds up well, covers well.
I actually sprayed everything flat black first. Then the texture, then random sprays with the black and red oxide and more texture while it was wet. More on that coming soon! The autumn brown textured rustoluem makes a pretty convincing fake rust, but I recommend spraying it over red primer or some sort of flat brown. It doesn't seem to get much coverage out of a single can otherwise.
I do most of my mocking up one part at a time, so it really is fun to see it all come together. And to be fair, I’m working with a lot of parts that either are known to work together or I’ve used on my other bikes in the past. But this was a whirlwind. 75% of the work was done in a week! It's fun when you get to the point that you are assembling the bike for the last time.
Thanks! It’s the first time I’ve done an entire bike like this. I really like how it’s coming together! That rustina looks really good.
Keep it going bud!

Thanks! I think the black base and the light sprays of black and red oxide while the texture is wet really help. The matte clear makes it all a bit darker and a lot stronger, too. Your Patina is looking good, too!Definitely looks like real rust in the photos!
Thanks, you build some pretty B**A** stuff yourself for being way out there on that rock. Its inspiring!Starting to come together just right.
