This may be an odd question, but as copper ages and gets that greenish patina, does it follow any rules, such as age only as exposed to water? Bottom side or top side first to age? Will a copper pipe left outside age evenly? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
 
It will age unevenly for quite a while. Eventually it will take on an even green color but it could be quite a while. If you keep a piece of copper underwater it won't turn green. It turns dark brown. Gary
 
thanks for the info, I am going to try a faux finish on some new parts for my build to make them look old.
