So I saw the custom pedals that were made out of brass (sorry I can't remember the builder, I suck!) and of course it got my brain moving a little bit and now I'm curious who's made custom pedals.... please show me pics!!!!

After I see what ya'll have done, I might divulge my design...........

that was uncle stretch that did the copper blocks....
my father in law made me some wood blocks last year but i cant bring myself to ride on them anymore since he died(just want to keep something he made for me from getting destroyed) ill post some pictures later

That's what I'm planning on doing. Wooden pedals would be sweet!

you should look into stablized wood (wood filled with epoxy under presure)

you wont have to deal with finish coats, it wont ever except water. just cut sand and polish for a brilliant finish.
check out knifemakers supply shopes. they have it for sure. (and probably some of the most rare/unusually/highly figured pieces of woods you've come across.)
this method of forcing epoxy into wood will allow you to use burls, or spalted woods that otherwise would easily break.

There are some composite wood materials out there like Truemarc that are pretty convincing. very realistic top grain, nothing on the ends though. we've got some samples at work, fooled a guy yesterday, he thought it was cedar.
