Just picked this up for under $300,what do u guys think?

I like it. Probably mid 1960's. Serial # on the left rear drop out. Post the 2 letter code, (first digits) of the serial, can then tell the year. Seat is not the original.

If I'm seeing that right as "BG" serial it is a Feb. '71 Stingray JR. in Campus green. Looks like someone changed out the bars and seat. I thought Jr. Stingrays came with front and rear S-7 looks like you have a S-2 rear with a red band hub so it is earlier then '71. The bars should be a set of the later version Jr. bars those you have are full size '69/70 bars. The changed to the more upright style in '70. You can still find "that style in early '70 not on a '71. looks like you have the correct '71 clear reflector pedals which were not around long. The Jr. model is the same short frame as the early
'63/64 and early '65 Stingrays. That style frame then became Jr. in late '65 it also continued as a Typhoon until the end in '82. You got some upgrades in my book with the bars and the S-2 rear. I know things are different in CA. so I'm only speaking for my area but $300 delivered is a bit much for my blood. Trying to get it back to original you will be upside down ,keeping it and building it as a fun bad ass Stingray rider will put your head in the clouds. I love all my Stingrays and as I always say "everyone should own a Stingray" isn't that right @Otto (Spelled Backwards) ? I have lots of parts for that bike once you decide what you wan to do with it reach out maybe we can make a deal. Good luck what ever you decide. I just built this '72 Typhoon as a Deluxe SR

Another thing with the Jr. frame is it requires the shorter 4.5 inch crank which you have, you can put the longer 5.5 but you will be dragging the pedals on every turn if you are not careful. The crank and stem will have dates stamped on them to see if they are original. Both of them could have a '70 stamp and still be original.

Are you getting an S-2 wheel? what tire are you putting on it? There are a bunch of killer swaps in CA maybe you are near by one of them. Always seems to be an abundance of SR stuff and I'm always drooling.

Does the stem , bars or crank have dates stamped? Those bars look to be '67/68/69

She came with an S-2 rear wheel and (split) stock tire.

Probably gonna build another SR, this later frame being longer, debating a 3 speed for longer distance comfort.

Talking about comfort, as this frame is petite, wondering about using a Raleigh chopper seat, it looked groovy on one of the versions of my Batbike,and so comfy!

That'd free up the spring 'Nana for the long distance Ray ...

Those spring seats are a bit on the long side for a short frame. Mine has a full size SR seat and it still is a bit long in looks for me but I deal. The shorter 15 inch Jr. stingray seats are more in scale if you want. Remember the 3 speed hub is wider then a coaster so you will have to spread the frame a bit. Some call it cold setting where you reset the width permanently. I'm pretty sure you can just muscle it in as is and not have any problems.

your bike is a short frame the bike otto posted is a long frame

There are 3 different frame styles your style is a Jr. which is the same as the first "shorty " frame 1963 1/2 to 1965 1/2. The second frame 1965 1/2 to 1968 has longer seat stays but still uses the lucky 7 sprocket with 36 holes. Then the third version in 1969 till the end of production which has longer seat and chain stays. This version has the longer chain stay which allows for the 46 tooth mag sprocket. Here are all 3 the red is a Jr. like yours, the blue is a 1966 with longer seat stay as the space from seat post to fender bracket went from about 2 inches to 4 inches. It is subtle but made for a longer less likely lift the front end when starting out. Third is a 1971 green with both longer struts. The longer chain stay allowed for the bigger sprocket and made for a slightly longer frame still.

Then the third version in 1969 till the end of production which has longer seat and chain stays.

This frame was one year earlier in 1968 with the Krate Stingrays. 1968 was the only year with all 3 frame sizes.
