Had a short "fight or flight" moment (exams start tomorrow..) and went to the basement today to check on my bike building supplies, just to see if it would be possible to slam together something last minute....

If I'll do it, I'll call it The EggBeater, as it will become a classic beater bike to be left at the railway station.
But first if have to focus on other, more important things...

Hi fellow ratters! I tanked one of my tests today (two more to go next week) and desperately needed some distraction to calm my mind. So I went to the local bicycle supplies shop for some cheap tyres and inner tubes and got started in my basement...
First I installed a headset...

Then I taped the rims (one has to work with the things one's got in the shop)

Bottom bracket installed

The frame is meant for 28" wheels, I put in the 26" single speed set I originally laced for the Wolverine. So I tried a short set of cranks (152mm) I had from the disassembled BarrelBanana, slapped on a chain and had a rider...

The cranks didn't feel right so I put on the ones I had in mind first (175mm) and mounted the front brake:

I'll probably put some white rattle can on the fork and try some different handlebars. But other than that it's mainly done....

Was the 'tank' you mentioned a Panzer or a Tiger?

As we have witnessed and experienced for ourselves, building a bike is very therapeutic. Whether it is getting over the loss of a loved one, relationship stress, or a lower than expected result on a test; throwing parts on a bike or wrenching away on a repair can be a good distraction.

Your bike reminds me of a really tall framed mtb from the early years.

Tankwise I'm thinking some fully equipped Leopard. Completely blew it... May have to repeat this one in a few months...[emoji20]
But feeling better already. Took the EggBeater for a short ride to the pet shop (cats were starving).

It handles really good, gear ratio almost perfect for short city rides. But will try other stem and handlebars (and might practice some doodaism...)

Just finished my handlebar-swaparoo....

even tried a MTB variation

but decided to stick with the black kiddy bike handlebar

and started with the paint job. Might need to apply some patina (aka dirt) to match the frame, but already better than red...

Now a need to cook some Eggstras...

That's a really tall bike, I'm not sure that I could pedal it sitting on the seat! You must have long legs.

BTW, I'm always drawn to lugged frames. It might be an eggbeater, but it's cool!

Thank you! Nothing better then some quality time in the workshop to clear the mind and straighten the thinking.
Oh, and my inner doodad is cut loose and ordered the first eggstra. [emoji16] If it fits, it will be eggsquisite!

Exams are over, made it in 5 of 6, so I will have to repeat one. That's not that bad for just about 4 weeks of prep time...
So tonight it's workshop time. The first bit of doodaa-eggstra just arrived in the mail...

This one is going to be a cousin of my Capitan Terror...

Eggsactly, that's the plan (more of a take apart bike though...). I need something to take with me in public transport for free (folded or taken apart it's luggage and no bike)

Thanks! I'm glad it's over for now. Have to think about when to repeat the failed test, but first comes the big move to Berlin... (and finishing this bike of course)

This afternoon I took some work with me to our garden:
Front light is done and operational

This donor had to give up it's front fender (got already fork, hubs and spokes from it for this build) not much left now:

Back home I cut the fender in two pieces and mounted them on:

So that's how the EggBeater looked earlier this evening:

After that I donated the rear light from the Capitan and decorated a bit...

Cutting the frame for the couplings needs some prep work on the couplings first, as the frame has an outer diameter of 29 mm and the inside of the coupling is only about 28,somethingish mm wide an really rough. So it needs to be widened and smoothed out to fit properly.
But the main reasons for the delay is, that I can't find my tube cutter... (and no, I won't use a hacksaw...)
Might need to clean up my workshop....

But will continue on monday. All tools and materials are ready in the workshop... So this will be done in notime.

I use the Capitan a lot lately. It's a smooth and fast ride once you get accustomed to the "break lever shifter". And it's functionality is perfect: taken it apart in a few seconds an thrown in the trunk/taken into the public transport and assembled almost as quickly once you reached your destination...

I almost forgot the good news: Flat hunting time is finally over!
I scored I nice flat for our family here in Berlin!
So next week I'll finish the EggBeater and then I'll have to pack up shop and flat for the big move...

But I'll probably have to downsize on my bike fleet due to lack of storage room in the new condo....
(or rent some selfstorage box)
