Here is one of the two bikes I ride at work. This one I use just to make the 1/4 mile trek from the gate to my work area and back at the end of the night. I built it completely from parts I salvaged from scrap bins around the plant. I used one of our big sand blast cabinets to remove the grimy yellow paint and left it to mother nature to do the rest. That was about a year ago and the patina is coming along nicely, especially considering it stays inside 24/7.

My group has 30+ bikes alone. We have over 10 million square feet of manufacturing space. There are lots of bikes to move around the campus. I just clean up the scraps. ;)

Kool-- I worked in a steel mill for (waaaay too long) and always wanted to ride a bike thru some of the places. Guaranteed flats tho.......

Really nice looking ride you built-- especially from 'scrap' parts 8)

Any idea what kinda bikes you got there? Any trikes? Seem to remember maybe Atlas making some industial trikes with the plastic mag wheels.

Most of our fleet is 10+ year old Giant Simple Singles. They have begun replacing some of the older ones with Huffy Cranbrooks. We also have one Chicago built Schwinn Hevi-Duty that just won't die. Other organizations have Mohawk trikes and the folks that carry heavy tools with them get Worksman Movers. There are still a bunch of the Emorys and several other brands rolling through.

I work in a large mill where the maintenance men have bikes... seems like they filled all their tires with expanding foam... or something like that... no flats though...

We have to combat aluminum burrs, drilled out rivets, and all other types of metal debris. I had been handling the maintenance on our bikes because the garage on site took more than a month to repair a flat. The fine folks at the garage have decided to begin sending all the bikes in need of repairs to one of our local LBS to save money. Our garage liquidated all their bike parts so I can't get new parts to fix our fleet anymore. Guess I will be working with used parts for a while.

Do you think you can get me a frame like that?.... maybe one they threw out???

On occasion I can find them at Surplus Sales, but it is rare. Most of the time the go straight to the recycler. I have been wanting to score me one for myself for a while. If I happen into a few of them, I will list the extras up here.

it would be cool if a few of these super strong frames went into the crusher and ended up breaking the crusher and saveing all ferther bikes from their end.

Then they would have to be painted green a called "The Incredible Hike" (Hulk + Bike)

^More proof im insane...^

Speaking of green, I've got an Emory frame just like that, needs forks though. Let me know if your interested in it. Also have a girl's frame that has a bent seat tube, but the forks are good. They would have to be shortened in the steering tube to fit, and it has the headbadge.
