Fantastic! I kinda like´d the tank clear of paint, but the bike looks excellent.

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

I just could not bring myself to cut and extend the steerer tube on that springer. Instead i'm going to build a heavy duty truss rod fork similar to those Hawk Classic bikes. The handlebars will mount directly to the truss rods foreward of the head tube...somehow...

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

So...? Any progress on this project?
it was looking pretty good!!

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

is that a 2.125 on double wide rim? were do i get one of those rims?

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

Once again, completely stalled out. Winter's coming so I need to prepare the yard, re-financing the house so need to finish up some punchlist items, we are due any day for baby #3 so lots to do around the house, and work keeps interfering with my free time, trying to replace my truck in the next couple of weeks too. Man, i've got too much going on!

The fork work has begun though and i have a clear picture in my mind of how that is going to be built, just need the time to do it.....

Not happy with all the black, thinking about some kind of burgundy or royal blue with gold pinstripes?

The wheels came from my LBS, just some older stock. I've got all the money wrapped up in those wheels.
Rims $ 80.00, spokes $30.00 per wheel, hubs $ 40.00, tires, $ 60.00, tubes $ 6.00, cloth rim tape $ 4.00. ouch, this stuff adds up at retail when you're not in the business. LOL

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

11:16 PM EST, got the girder fork welded up, only needs a little tweaking to make the stem work (wont be in the traditional location). I used a rigid MTB fork, a vintage 24" blade fork from a middleweight i presume and some short tubing sections from a 60's Columbia rear triangle. I think i'll make a head light mount bracket of some kind. Then I'll need some kind of battery holder...

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

That's looking awesome Walker!

I sent you a pm about the battery tubes.

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, wood tank photos 7/27

as long as it doesnt get stalled out forever
congrats on #3 and sorry i couldnt find the username or any of the pm/emails for the guy i got the battery tube from but looks like unchained might have you covered

Finished rouging out the fork last night, here are the photo results as of bright and surly this AM

Going to pick up a chrome cap to close off the unused steerer tube.

side shot of the tank with polished alu. cover plate and faux gas cap. working on a fake fuel level window, just need to mount it and trim it out with something.

Just threw these bars into it so i could steer it out the door. I'll need to do some trial and error to see what i've got that will work the best.

Great Idea on those forks, never seen it before, very impressive,
Keep up the good job!!!

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, rolling mock up 10/16

Look what i found in the corner under half an inch of dust. My old Excelsior Boardtracker! The forks never quite did it for me so called it a do-over.

Donor parts: Rock Shock, truss rod arms from the original 1930's fork, a reflector bracket. Went to Lowes and picked up some new chrome truss rods from the plumbing department and custom chrome fork leg caps from kitchen and bath. A friend of mine with a plasma cutting table made the dropouts for me.

I cut off the stanchions as long as i could, bought a stick of 4130 chromolly to sleeve over the stanchions, extended the steerer tube and polished up the crown. The upper truss rod bracket is sized so the rods are the same width from the axle, about 4" O/C.

Overall i'm much happier with the look. The front of the bike sat kind of high, now I've got a 1/4" between the crown and tire which brought the front end down a good inch or more. Just need to smooth the welds and spray bomb it. I've got some chrome button head bolts to secure the top ends of the rods. Maybe it will be ready to pedal for Monson...

I really want to run this reverse brake lever but I'll have to route the brake cable internally through the handlebar. The frame is already drilled for internal cable routing all the way to the rear drum.

Re: Excelsior Boardtracker, rolling mock up 10/16

Love the look! One thought though would be to taper the sides of your wood tank in towards the back so it does not seem so bulky, Also out of curiosity, how do you like the Whit tiers? Do they get dirty easily and are they hard to clean? I am working on a build for a Workmen Cruiser I picked up and was thinking of getting all White tiers. I looked at a set that were slightly used and they looked fairly dirty.

Good to see this bad boy back up at the top, Walker! It looks mean! I am really digging the current setup. The frame is ridiculously cool, and the hairpin, tank and fork are perfect.
