First time build.

Hey people, I started cutting up the 2 frames to start my project.
i noticed that a lot of builders use vintage bike's but i don't have that luxury.
So i hope what i did look's also nice and promising.

I am keeping the frontderailleur 3 speed and i have a sachs 3 speed drumbrake hub for the rear, i will keep the rear derailleur in place also to give the chain some slack while shifting the front 3 gears.
That will give me 3X3= 9 speed(i havent tried that out yet, but i guess in theory it should work.
I am planning to fabricate my own springer front end because the ones that are for sale look a bit to fragile to me( i want it to look kinda chunky) and i've seen some reports about quality issues as wel.

Do not expect a very fast build because i plan to spend no money on it(just labour).
i will have to look around for parts & stuff everywhere.

At first I thought it was already built and then after looking for another minute I saw how you just have it mocked up.

Yeah it looks kinda funny this way, But I was thinking lets have a look before i weld it all together.
I cannot ignore the feeling that maybe i should stretch the rearpart a bit more, it looks like it's gonna be a real short bike this way.
I don't want it to have a stretched look, but maybe a litle longer would look nicer.
I have to eyeball the picture some more i guess.

I like it! this looks like it is going to be a really fun build. There is nothing like jumping right into a project to get your feet wet. I'm pretty much in the same boat too just going 180 degrees in the opposite direction with my design. I have never built a bike before and I basically have no budget either. The most I have spent on my bike so far was $10 for a piece of steel that I had to buy to build some dropouts. Good luck with the build, I definitely can't wait to see how this turns out.

while i'm at it, does anybody can give me a direction of how to remove the crank's on this one.
I've tried gentle persuasion with a hamer(stopped doing that before damage is done),
but i'm sure there's trick for it when not having the proper tool around.

then i have another issue, i feel i lack the knowledge when naming parts of the frame,
like what the different tube's are called in english, is there a pic somwhere that names al the parts of a frame?

I am thinking of lengthening the lower tubes by cutting them off end turn them up at the end and down a little behind the "cranktube".
while keeping the toppoint where the old frontfork now sits as a turningpoint.
does this make sense? lol.

Howdie dutchy! You mean a "crancksleutel" like this ?

They should sell em fairly cheap at any LBS or Halfords.

It's a good idea to give it a little penetrating oil soak before removal, sometimes corrosion or excessive tightening will cause the tool to push out the threads. If that happens, leave the nut (or bolt) loosely in place to avoid mushrooming the axle when you beat it.
The rear frame tubes are known here as chain stays (lower), and seat stays (upper)

I've been eyeballin' the mock up pic and started visualizing the front springer/suspension.
For the idea, i came up with, I need to start building that suspension first because it will atach to the downtube too.
i wil recreate the down tube now and connect it to the chainstay's.
I will try to make a sketch this afternoon and somehow put it on here(pic from the sketch).
would like to know if it's been done and if it will work.

Got that drawing done, maybe not entirely correct on proportions but it's the basic idea that count's for me!

I will use an mtb shock, i think, or some original springerparts, not sure yet.

Creative thinking, very original idea 8) My guess is a mountainbike spring would work best, but I'm no expert.
Just one thing to take into account: the top connection on the headtube to the spring is going to travel down as well as back.
Be sure to leave enough space between the spring and the frame to allow for movement downwards.
Now go and build it. :mrgreen:

yes i will leave enoug space for travel, I have to work the tech out in detail maybe i can make it so that the rake stay's adjustable(just for fun).
I got that headtube you see lying on the ground in the mockup pic, that is "opoefiets" size(at least an inch longer than the one on there now).
Thank's for reminding me, i still have to build it. ;-)

I would love to design a bike that sells, but the "flaw" in this design is that the handlebars will move with this front setup.
I know cool can exceed comfort but to be able to sell this?.....I'm not sure.

If people like the idea of the front set up feel free to copy/improve it(so we all benefit), that's what i would do 8)

I'm thinking the transfer of road shock through the handlebar would be worse than a rigid fork.

Nice, i googled "hossack front ends" after that,
I found that and loads of different frontend setups mostly on motorbikes.
They all look quite overengineerd I think. not suitable for my way off thinking.
I am a first time builder.

I am not worried that my setup won't work,
I can alway's set the spring real tight and drive it as a rigid(but it will look cool) 8)
