Okay, you guys raise and interesting point. Not only will the the bars go back and forth, but the geometry will change dramatically during high load turns.

There are several ways to remedy this. I will think about it, but it probably involves multi links with a camming action, much the same as a typical "Girder" front end.
Still looks cool.

O.k. different opinions there.
I'm gonna go ahead with it any way :roll:
(i'm not planning to take it offroad)
And didn't you guy's hear about the smooth bicycle lanes in the netherlands(nice red tarmac/asphalt).

Like i said i will set the spring as tight as, and see how it goes down the road.

Hey Guy's,

I did some work on the frame, replaced the seatstay's with the old mtb frontfork, 'm planning the same with the chainstays.
but i want it to connect to the downtube underneath the "cranktube?"
Got an issue there because that fork is a bit wider and the cranks will hit, also i need to widen the fork a bit at the end, that will make the fork even wider,
tomorrow i will put it in a vice to try and flaten the fork tubes a bit also the cranks have some room to loose some material, i could grind them of a bit.

About the suspension system i thought up, i should take the comment's given by some fellow forum members in to account.
it would not be comfy.
So I'm looking for a girder system, searched for an old moped type girder.
but no luck yet. I've been looking at this one though(no girder but very kool, ashame i cannot afford it right now. http://link.marktplaats.nl/311324583
I gues it would not be that difficult to build one out of conduit.
I will work on that first now because the position of the front wheel will make it easier to position the new down tube.

will post a pic of progress as i have made some progress. :D

I've been working on this a few day's last week and made some progres.
Haven't left any tube of the frame untouched.
abandoned the idea of a girder front end too(because of not having enough up and down travel space in the frondend set up.
Will use a springer set up with some homemade stuff(got some of the bends done).

And got a nice package in the mail today(first buy for the project), these are not common in europe but come from a work/transportbike,
They are 5.5 cm wide(2.2 Inch).I don't know what sizes are common inthe U.S. of A.
But i like these very much

More pic's soon

that is one of those "why didn't i think of it" ideas i like it. make sure you make those pivots beefy to limit side play good luck

Got some parts of the frame done. The top tube bend doesn't line up with the headtube though, gotta do that over.
seatstays and chainstays i did tack with a wheel in it and welded the whole thing later. so that should be o.k.
Put some zinkspray over it to keep it from rusting(and hide the bad welds).

You can see the tubes i've bend for the fork still have to shorten them to the right size.

any tips on how to put a frame together straight without a jig ?

Layed out the tubes in a build plan, still have to cut some to size though(some tubes i have to remove);

did manage to fabricate the frontfork,
still have to make some reinforcements and a connection to the steerertube;

Got some nice old breaklevers from a solex;

For those who've never seen a solex;

Today i finished my frame build, stil have to make some seat mounts, though.

tomorrow i will work on the frontfork, i realized that it can be 1 or 1.5 inch, shorter.

Hope i get it done so i can start putting bondo on the frame this weekend.

Your frame turned out great! The lines flow well. Cool VeloSolex pictures too, I should do something like that to mine.

Thanks, appreciate it.
you're doing a very nice job yourself too. guess you must like this one aswel;

Its a puch ms50v '67, it was my girlfriends daily until a few months back, its awaiting resto.
I've been trying to talk her into(she is a roth/fink fan) doing it electra rat fink style but with huge ape's and bananaseat.
Can you picture that!

Hey guy's what's wrong whit this picture?
ev9jl3.jpg

i really like the overall shape of the frame.
I really like how the front fork turned out to look, i am confident that will look crazy when done completely and painted.
I'm having second thought's about the frame though.
It looks kinda too big, i think.
I think about solving this by;
1.cutting the top tube about 2 inches from the seat post and take an inch of 3 out the top tube right there.
2.cutting the down tube just behind the steerer tube and take out a piece right there
3. then i can move the front part of the frame back and down at the same time.
4. the top tube will be shorter and lower. the down tube will be connected to the bend in that "giant" tube.

does any of this make sense to any of you "pro" guy's?

I am stubbern sometimes, but would really like to get some oppinions about this.

i don't think its too big, just a question of changing the lines.
the bottom bar needs to run paralel to the top bar (and closer to the ground)
like this , but obviously not as low

ya might get away with cutting the lower rear stay. stepping on it to open up the rear stays, then reconnecting the bottom bar. ya would need to lengthen the seat tube.

Thanks icyuod2,
That makes perfect sense.
I've been thinking about what you suggested. i could also cut the crankcase from that lower tube and gently,
using a jack just behind the seattube, widen the space between the stay's untill the tubes are partalel.

thats the ticket!
i think once you do that, the only other thing left to change is the seat tube.
opening up the stays will bring the rear wheel in a little. since the seat tube wont be long enough
to reach to the new placement of the bottom bar, cut it out and move it back, closer to the rear wheel closing that gap.

the crank can then be elevated and place anywhere you like along the bottom bar.

i'd probably mount it closer to the front like this
IMG_0622-1.jpg

will go a long way as far as comfort.

no problem, thats why we're all here.

i think it does, and will look fantastic.
looking forward to the finish build.
