Was over at my neighbors house talking bicycles and saw this old beauty just sitting there wasting away outside. Said he was going to strip it for the bearings and odd parts and junk the rest. I really like the Collegiates and this one is nicely optioned and a 1968. To make a long story short I traded a Panther III I wasn't going to build straight up for it......I think it's going to clean up nicely!

I have to say I'm partial to the Panther, but my wife's Collegiate is the nicest riding bike in our garage. Nice trade.

Thanks guys. It was the 60' Panther III that sealed the deal on a group of 4 bikes I bought several months ago. Since then I picked up a 51' Schwinn straight bar and a 56' Schwinn cantalever and just won't have time for them all. I did clean up the worst looking piece of chrome on the Collegiate today (the air pump) and surprisingly it came out very nice so the rest should look really good. I've been eyeing early Schwinn light weights lately and this one fell into my lap. I only wanted one :roll:. Once it's clean I'll get back to the cruisers.

yeah, i kinda like the panther too, and the red one in its background. then again, i remember how much i liked my varsity and that collegiate looks like a sweet ride, too.
