This should be good! I had a blurry idea of what I wanted on my build-off but would have probably been ahead of the game if I had had a set plan.

I found this inexpensive shock and made some modifications to it so that it would fit correctly and painted the spring banner red. Also created some mounts for it.
Than I hit the bike with some sealing primer..

If you think you can put it all together strong enough with epoxy I would say go that route.
The nuts don't look bad, but they just aren't as sleek.
Have you thought about rivets?
