Im finally getting my stretched 26er and I want to run a free wheel in the back, no coaster brake -.-, I want a brake but I dont want to have the brake lever show on the apes, anyone do any thing before to "hide" the brake lever? Where would you put it?

I wouldn;t recommend placing the brake far from your normal hand position. But if really what you're going for then you can get some cyclocross levers (aka inline levers) and mount it towards the flat portion of the bars near the stem. Or you can go with the pricey Paul Comp. e-levers and just go with a low profile brake:

ive done one on the seatpost before or you could run a brake cable through the eyelets on the frame and just yank on the cable like a lever

How about converting a Gripshifter into a brake lever? A decent V-brake only needs about 3/4 to an inch of cable travel...you should be able to get that much travel out of a Gripshift I would think.
what about an inverted lever?
sure you'll still see the lever, but not the cable.
they're made for british motorcycles,witch share the same handlebar size as bicycles(OD not ID, so that could be a problem).
they're pretty pricey, but it seems to me i've seen 'em for bicycles.
i think they look really trick. i'd love to do one on a bicycle or if i build another british(or jap) bike.

Keep the ideas coming guys, I dont know how I wanna do this, maybe Ill mount it right by the tire so I gotta grab it and risk cutting my fingers off :lol: I like the motorcycle with the levers but onces again I dont really want levers showing, bike has to be clean

why not a coaster brake?
The twistgrip would also act as a parking brake if you left the ballbearing in it.

Im thinking of a tiny brake lever, as much as I dont want to I think its what Im gonna have to go with, mount it on the lower bar or something..well see what happens when the bike gets her, If anyone has any other ideas that might work or something that could be adopted to work, feel free to help out

I was thinking about the foot brake idea as well, maybe a motorcycle foot brake lever could be placed on the chainstay clear of the pedal stroke somehow. not sure hot that would get integrated into a coaster brake though. How about mounting rim brakes, get a set of Magura hydraulic's, motorcycle master cylinder etc...or disc for that matter.
I'm using an old Shimano 333 3-speed twist grip as a 'hidden' emergency brake on a fixie that I am working on.
The shifter on the right is original and the one on the left has been converted into a brake. I'm probably going to change the grip to match the leather wrap I am doing on the handlebar.
The only thing you have to do to convert the shifter into a brake is to remove the ballbearing and spring that indexes the gear shifts. You have to make sure that the brake shoes you are using are close to the rim as there is not much 'travel' in the shifter, otherwise you won't have much stopping power.

There's rear drums available with freewheel like these, you could then run a suicide shifter which is actually a brake.

Run it through the frame? or whats the deal..do you see the cable?
Well! I started playing with the idea of a jockey shift and thats what Im gonna do for the brake no more hidden lol I think Im gonna do about 32" lever from behind the seat that extends toward the front and up .. well see when bike gets her .. just gotta get some good round bar
probably make it simple, push down to brake .. get some crazy looking hand blown glass nob of ebay call it a day
