Homemade DIY Cotter Press

Another how-to for a nifty little tool. Most of us don't deal with vintage cottered cranks regularly, but when we do...doh!

At work, I was shown the double hammer method, hold the side of one hammer against the cotter pin, then wack the other side with a hammer, this shocks the cotter and I can get them out quite easily with this method, maybe the odd spray with wd40 for harder jobs.

Pipe clamp with a hole drilled into it to push the cotter into. You also can still use it for a pipe clamp. I use my vice with a socket over the pin most of the time
