My cell phone died, which means my camera did too, so I haven't been able to post any photos the week. I lost a few photos of the build when it died. Well, this week was about getting everything prepared for paint and painting it. We had agreed on black eary on, so we went with a satin black.

I dropped it off at the pinstripper after work yesterday. Can't wait to see it and start putting it all together! I'll post some photos when I get it back from the pinstriper.

Picked everything up from the Pinstriper last night except the J.C.Higgins chainguard that I shortened.

Here's what the Schwinn chainguard looks like, the "Ruby Mae Special".

I couldn't wait to start putting it together.

This is the pinstriping on the top of the rear fender.

Almost done, I have to finish it up tonight.

I ended up going with the JC Higgins chainguard I had. It looks more like a Hot Rod part! It was from a 26" or 24" bicycle, so I had to shorten it. This is how I shortened it.

I made a wood mold to form the chainguard around, an inside and an outside piece. I cut the profile of the chainguard into the (2) pieces of wood so they would fit tight up against the chainguard. After rounding the edges on the inside piece, it was ready to go. I trimed the chainguard so it was just a little longer than the forms.

I put it in a vise and bent the edges down around the form by hitting it with a hammer. I just took my time, working the metal around the form. Afterward, I cleaned it up on a discsander, straightening out the edges.

I made a new bracket for the front mount that bolted to the chainguard, using a couple existing holes that were in it. It's simular to the Schwinn mounting bracket. I had better photos of the process, but lost them when my photo died. It was pinstriped at the same time as all the other parts.

Ruby's Hot Rod bicycle is finished. It was fun having it at Detroit's Autorama Show in the basement with the Rat Rods/Hot Rods. Here's some pictures.

These might not be able to stay on, but I put chrome acorn nut caps on all the wheel nuts.

The bike's back home and Ruby's waiting for warmer wheater.

Might have to lower the seat all the way!

Nice work!
Not sure she will be able to ride it even with the seat all the way down, here's hoping she has a growth spurt soon... :D

Luke.

Yah, Ruby's pretty short for a 8 yar old. Might have to build her another one and section the frame somehow!

Wow, congratulations. Not only did you put together an awesome little ride for your daughter (and nice work, too!), but you've given her a memory she'll cherish forever. Well done! 8)

Cute kid, sweet bike..
