Awesome! Don't even get me started on mopeds. I've owned more than I care to count. My favorite was this 1979 Indian I had a few summers back. Only had 600 original miles on it!

I think that's it. Somewhere there is a 1980 Honda CX 500 motorcycle that I own, but it's been away for so long now that I don't really own it anymore.

In my honest opinion any time you buy a car new or through a buy here cry here place you get a bad deal. Most of my cars that I got used run better and I didn't have to pay out the nose for them. Also there is something about driving a cheap $300 car, you don't have to worry about scratching it when loading your bike, you don't have to worry about people stealing it...somedays you pray they would, if it dies on the road you leave it there, and if you crash it just have a good insurance policy and get something better.

My VW beetle was totaled 7 times and paid for 3 of my other vehicles. First time was the day I got it, called in and put full coverage on it just in case since I was driving it home from Ohio with a buddy following me. I get a block from home and a guy runs a stop sign and barely taps the passenger door knocking a piece of trim off. Body shop quoted an outrageous price because of some rust and insurance totaled it and sent me a check for $1200! $75 went to the tow yard to get the car back and I never did fix it.

Only one, a Mitsubishi, it was very reliable :p did over 200k miles. And a 2 stroke bike, which required cylinder rebuilds every few thousand miles :p

I won't even start listing all the cars my bf have and still owns.
The current ones
1. 87 BMW race car (his baby, generates 400+ Hp. He's getting it ready for racing this summer, currently being worked on)
2. 09 Jeep Wrangler (parked for preservation for his old days)
3. 89 Nissan Sentra (current daily driver)
4. 87 Jeep Comanche (almost no rust!, parked awaiting work but running)
5. 89 Toyota van (not running)
6. 96 Mitsubhi Pajero Mini (fresh of the boat from Japan, getting worked on to pass inspection)

Okay, my list is pretty short compared to most of these. I've been driving for 37 years and I've only had 14 vehicles.

1. 71 Ford Pinto (Castoff from my dad. I learned to do body work and painting on this because it was sideswiped before I got it. Bought for $750, driven for 10 years and sold for $650)
2. 67 MG BGT (Found abandoned on the side of the road, tracked down the owner and paid $200 for it. My first complete restoration)
3. 57 Thunderbird (312 3-speed stick. Not in great shape when I bought it. Long-term project car)
4. 85 Toyota Supra
5. 91 Mazda Miata (lowered, tweaked and mucho modified)
6. 95 Camaro Z-28 6-speed (lowered and all black)
7. 29 Ford Model A highboy coupe (53 full-house flathead with a T-10 4-speed. Painted with DP-90 flat black)
8. 01 Camaro SS 6-speed (lowered with a modified LS1)
9. 04 MINI Cooper S JCW (current 210hp commuter. Yeah, it's lowered too)
10. 05 Lotus Elise (unbelievable handling)
11. 47 MG TC
12. 48 MG TC (under restoration in my garage)
13. 11 Ford Flex
14. 56 Ford F-100 (restoration almost finished)

Favorite car? I would have to go with the Miata. I have no plans to ever sell it.

Designit,
how do you like working on the English cars?

The Lotus was somewhat frustrating as "the ghost of Lucas" was resurrected in the electronics, and all work required multiple panels to be removed for access to the simplest things.

The MG TCs have been a learning curve since they have Metric threads, British Standard fine threads, and British Standard cycle threads, and most with Whitworth heads. I have blown the tap and die budget just on the first TC. The MGs are as simple to work on as the Lotus was complex... although there is a little performance difference. :D Oddly enough, with the proper maintenance commitment, the 47 TC has been very reliable even on long trips.

The MINI doesn't really need any serious work done to it but that hasn't stopped me from tweaking it... Somehow I just can't seem to leave things "stock".

Eclipse,

You're my kinda girl! Bikes, cars, and you read Peter Egan... wow! Peter is my all-time favorite automotive journalist. Whatever Peter says I pretty much agree with. I have to admit whenever I get home from a long drive in the TC I always pat the dashboard and say "What a good car!" So maybe I'm talking to the ghost of the 10 owners before me... or maybe Mr. MG himself, Cecil Kimber. Yes, I have the list of owners back to the original registration in England.

I really believe that older cars have much more "soul" than new ones. Something about one person guiding the design vision of what the car should be versus the corporate mentality of "what kind of appliance will sell to the lowest common denominator". I'm just unrepentantly Old School. Anyway, a car that has wood in the bodywork must have some kind of "Ghost in the Machine" don't you think? :D

I totally agree about the wood in the car. Wood is porous so I guess the ghosts would get in there to hide.
I love Peter Egan. I'm currently reading a compilation of articles he wrote back in the days in Road and Track. It's called Side Glance. I can't stop reading it and I'm always looking for the latest things he writes in R&T. I can't agree more with him. I've learn a lot about english cars with him and now I can show off to my landlord when we talk about the Spitfire in his garage. Sometimes I feel like Peter's wife as my partner is into cars A LOT and race one.
Glad to meet another Egan's fan. :)

I was reading an old article from Peter Egan where he was saying that English car have ghosts coming with them. Do you think the same?

I've had a few English cars and a '58 hearse that was used up till the '80's. Hauled thousands of bodies and I never had any ghosts follow me around.

i have owned 98, the only reason I know this is because my insurance company gives each car a nr on the policy.
but I used to build cars as a hobby ... and stay with one car for about a year.. and by that i mean .. I would buy up every
old vw I could find wrecked.. burnt .. missing parts what every .. when i had about 15 or so .. would start with two take them
down to the frame .. and redo them..by the third car you now everything about them.. so for a year I would just do vw's
then switch to 69 camaros or 65 mustangs or c10 trucks.. but never kept any of them cars.. my fav wish i still had
69 RS camaro or my mini i put a turbo motorcycle motor in... or my 62 double cab vw
