Re: Jacked Up Pilot, It's a rider!

Thanks for the kudos guys! :D
Sorry I'm beat, so I'll reply more later

Well, It's a rider, kinda
Lots more to do, forgot to put on the truss bars on
Threw on a temp Mtn bike seat post over the tube with a road saddle for right now
Lots of electircal tape though
Had to make it ridable so just put the quill the "correct" way for now (no knee clearance otherwise)
Last bit of light

Flash kept acting up but you get the idea

Surprisingly it's only about 28lbs right now
Next big things are the wheels and the seat bracket
It's pretty Jacked Up in the back, eh? Amazing that they are both 26"

Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, It's a rider

Man, that's a good looking bike!
BRAVO!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, a few ride pics

vermodreary: Thanks, it seems to ride real smooth
Thanks Skippy and Pick, I was hoping the stance would work out :D
Thanks Slowriderz!

Didn't get anymore done but my grand nephew is only in town one more day
So we took the bike out again but in the light
We tried to get him on it but maybe next time he comes back
Had to get an action shot

Then my nephew was nice enough to take a few more, thanks bud :D

I've got the goofiest look on my face, oh well
You can really see the Big and Littles now :D :D

I'll get to finishing the other rim tomorrow and figure out if I can spoke them or have it done

Thanks for looking
Steve

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, a few more ride pics

Yeah, I really love the hot rod look of the BIG BUTT and the skinny front.
BRAVO!!

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, a few more ride pics

sweet looking bike! Has a cool dragster stance especially with the fat rear and skinny front runner :D

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, tough versus style

Thanks Petbog! Glad you like the tire combo
Kingfish, Sounds like your not talking about a bike any more
Hey Mitch, thanks. Dragster was what I was trying for
Bike 2112, thanks for being a stance fan
I smile every time I walk by it :D
Skipton, from a big drag race fan that's quite a compliment, thanks

Glad people like the stance. I tried to make it a bit different than others
Some got the chopper look which I think is very cool too
Otherwise it seems like only the muscle bikes are ever jacked up in the rear

Got some work done but no pics to show for it
All the white is off the outside of the Chukker rims
They now have a brushed aluminum look because I was too lazy too polish them too much
So I convinced myself to think that they looked more tough that way

Did all the spoke length measurements and calculations off Sheldon Brown's website
Came up with some numbers but had no idea how to verify them
Tonight, I went into the only bike shop I know where they have a large assortment of spokes available in a user friendly display, it didn't help
But Kaylee, the bike mech, was very helpful and patient
while I explained all my numbers and diagrams

Finally I said that I didn't trust my numbers, knowledge, or skills to do it myself so she going to
She suggested practicing a bit with a used wheel first
and said she'd write down all the sizes and lengths for me to check :D
That kinda drops me from the comp at this point but it more about getting the bike done right

I started doubting my plan about the laid back seat and truss rods
Thinking it might kinda take the tough edge off it (but it might need some class)
I was almost thinking straight drag bars (like the position on the last ride pic)
What do you think? (please ignore the stupid seat  )

My wife thinks I should keep the truss rods and I'm moving ahead on the seat
She also asked me about color (which I promised to add more of)
She was a bit thrown back when I said I was taking the white off the rims too
Not sure what I'll do. I'm really a minimalist at heart and it's getting close to the deadline

So I have the seat frame, shifter, and a couple of days of vacation to wrap this puppy up
Thanks for looking
Steve

I say keep the truss rods. They compliment the stance of the bike.

And as far as my BIG BUTT comment.

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, tough versus style (?)

Love the truss rods! 8) The layback saddle looks a little cooler but the regular saddle position will make the bike a little more comfy to ride.

Re: Jacked Up Pilot, Alloy springer seat brackets

Thanks Guys for all the great input! :D
I'll get back to detailed responses later, I'm beat

Actually got a goal (almost) done today
Wanted to make some aluminum brackets for the seat
Used square, angle and flat stock. Had a lot of fun doing it :D

It's not bolted super down tight or aligned but I sat on it and it didn't collapse
Used some bearings up front for a pivot, I'll let the pics speak (for once)

Think it will work out okay, It actually does spring so...
Believe it will be strong enough but it might take some trial and error yet
Plan on making it pretty with rounded edges and the right size bolts yet
Love to have it welded up but it's too late now
Have enough extra aluminum to make another one (or more) after the Buildoff

Finally wrapping it up
Thanks for Looking
Steve
