[Rat Pilot]

That’s a 1965 Snyder (Rollfast) built bike since the serial starts with a G.

DP Harris marketed Rollfasts (and other store brand bikes) but Snyder built the bikes until the mid 70’s.

It’s also screaming to be named “SomethingRoyal” after the famous race horse, and Mom to Secretariat!

No problem! I recently found basically the same bike, but my mine is A dated ‘59. I read mine was the last year of the big tire bikes. I was able to find a good bit info on them.

I painted mine with a 30’s Rollfast paint scheme.

Yeah... that bike is epic!!!! Thing looks flawless!!!!!! I definitely prefer the balloon tire bikes.

-my bike is a middleweight, but it’s still cool. Anymore, about ANY authentic men’s vintage tank bike is hard to find.

At least in complete form.

I’ve always been a big tire fan myself, but I’ve come to appreciate a lot of the 60’s middleweight bikes. My recent Strato Flyer build is actually my first middleweight bike build, and I love riding it.

Here’s a mock-up.

Not bad. I Dig the rich patina from the BLO.

I would have liked a slightly larger tire, but there’s no way a 1.95” or 2.0” would have fit.

Question for any wheel gurus out there: on the front wheel, I’ve got some play between my axle and whatever the thing is my spokes go into!! The hub maybe??

Is this just a matter of slightly tightening the nut on there or are the bearings shot?

Off the forks, giving the wheel a “free” test spin by holding both sides of the axle with each hand, the wheel spins perfectly and silently.

Any help on how to remedy this as cheap as possible would be greatly appreciated!!!

You preload the bearings with the cone nuts, lock'em in place with the lock nuts (if it has them).

Thanks rusty; I’ve got the cone nut, no lock nut.

I’ll see what I can dig up. I was a little disappointed. The wheels sans tires and tubes looked pretty straight.

I put the tires on and the front wheel looks pretty bad. (Not true)

Hey Jude, I'm a step ahead of you. I spent a few days ripping apart hubs and putting em back together this spring just to figure out how they work.

See the little flat spots on the cone? You might have to grind down a wrench (or buy a super expensive flat wrench with a blue handle) in order to hold it while tightening the lock nut. But it's dead simple. Even I can do it

Ok, so, a little rustier than the pics showed, but I scored some very unique bikes!!!!!

First, the “surprise bike”. Not a part of the original deal, but was worked in last minute. I think it’s a 30s Firestone.

Next up is a 40s (?) Rollfast

And then, a super weird find, a Sears “two piece bike”. Yes, we’ve all heard of folding bikes, but this bike had 2 wing nuts on it so you just pull the bike in two and throw it in your trunk!!!!!

And finally, a mystery bike. Maybe a western flyer? Gonna make it into a klunker.

And the bottom is a 60’s Murray built cantilever. It could be very well be a Western Flyer, bit Murray built that frame for a lot of different name plates.

That Firestone is almost a copy of my Monark Ladies Deluxe, except mine is a 24”. Same chainring, rack, chainguard, etc.

So, my 10th grade daughter’s ex-boyfriend’s mom knows I’m a bike nut.
(They/we’re all still good friends!)

She’s cute! She picked this out of her neighbors trash and held it for me! Lol!!!

The rear brake cable was seized, fixed that. -just needs some fussing with the cables, some tires and a scrub and we’re on the road !!!
