Here’s the mess!

I’ve got an aftermarket chainring on here, which may be part of the problem. (?)

Maybe I need a spacer between the chainring and the stationary cone?

Definitely a tight/awkward fit between the chainring and BB cup.

If I loosen the cone opposite the drive side, it spins free, but the ‘play’ increases side to side.

Anyone got any input, please let me know:

I looked through the beginning of this post and you stated this "old straight bar frame," is it a Schwinn frame? Being a Schwinn enthusiast I have found Schwinn has used many odd parts, from the tires right though all the parts.

That chain ring is a good choice, it compliments the frame colors.

Between the chain ring and the cone/nut, there should be a washer. That may be the problem.

Thanks Wayne! I understand the Schwinn dilemma !

It definitely not a Schwinn. It’s a 1933 Rollfast motobike.

I would guess the BB would be universal, but I’m not sure.

-there could be something quirky with the Murray I’m scabbing parts from….
