If it's a one speed, it will have one red stripe in the middle of the hub. The chrome was good so it should shine up like new. A 2 speed automatic will have 3 stripes on the hub, red or yellow. Here's a link about the Bendix hubs"

So if you're going to change out the wheels, a cheap way would be to get a 26" beach cruiser off CL. Those go for about 40-60 bucks and you'll have a set of wheels, tubes, and tires along with some parts. Pedals and chain will probably be interchangable also. But you won't have that cool red band hub that way. Buying them new will cost a lot more. If you have to have brand new, get the cheapest cruiser at Walmart and you'll still save over buying new wheels and tires.
