TRADITIONAL Kickin it

got the huffy out of the container this afternoon, tripped over it and gave it a good kick so just gona call it "kickin it"

removed the deraileur and squeezed the rear in using a stem bolt as I'm going from geared rear wheel to single speed

here's the set of wheels I'm using, nice and rusty

will most likely chuck on some old whitewall tyres,
Chucked on the crank and wheels for a mock up

crank arm sits just above the ground so will play around with the front fork rocker arms just so its a bit higher

found a shorter length arm crank so that sorts out the clearance between the pedal and ground

Thankyou I'm going to just free build this i.e no plan of eventual outcome, I will get the stance right, find my layback seat post and from there we will see, definitely get the spray cans out and sanding the frame a bit for a patina'd look

That is pretty much how most of my builds go. There is only one part on my current build that was preplanned before the build off. Have fun!!

I love the idea of using the mower bars. They would make awesome "tiller" bars

I used some chair legs for VerBoten back in BO10

The tiller style bar would look good but are too long in a horizontal position so cut some bar ends down and bolted on my aluminum grips to see what it looks like, kind of convinced they look good and kind of convinced the old apes look better, I will leave them on for now but ultimately may go back to the old apes

Very cool, but I kind of agree that the old apes look better. The ride geometry for this build may not lend itself well to the tiller style, but you should save those for a stretch build or something.

I know for a fact that I'm going to be looking for broken down lawn mowers now. You can see in this pic the chopshop bars I used on Uncle Stretch have some of that tiller vibe to them.

Yer I was trying to look for a pair that were straight with no bend or odd shaped but these were all I found at short notice but surprisingly very comfortable position

Yer that's why when my lawn mower decided to go to metal heaven and donate its organs I saved the bars for exactly that, I got a mig welder in Feb for my birthday so kickin it might only be phase 1 it might have to be renamed stompin it in the future once I have time to actually start welding

Plus most bars seem to be around 22mm the same as a standard bar just means you would need 22mm stem clamp or shims for the 25.4

and found the mudguards, those of you who know me know im not keen on adding them but we will see

may use this crate but if i do im going to cut into it so the crate sinks down around it and I have put the original apes back on it for now

Man, those tiller bars are really long! I agree, they may be better served on a more stretch style build. But they are very cool!

I love the 'sunken crate' idea. One idea would be to cut it down the middle lengthwise, mount a regular bike rack on the bike, and then hang the two halves on each side so they line up and look like a complete crate. Then in the back and front, add your cross slats so they match up and give it more of the box look.
