I'll be working with Lil Thundrrr on this tiny little 16" wheel cutsie "mountain bike". He has been riding it like a lunatic clown since his big brother dragged it home from the curb down the street. I'm going to try to make it fit him a little better with 20" fork, wheel, and tire, and the trusty old nanner seat and ape bars.

We're going to throw some black paint at it, maybe keep a little bit of the pink, plus hold on to a few silly bits because somehow my 9 year old understands irony

So that's what we have to start with. Let's see where it goes

Me n the bike already been chatting. A plan has been formulated. I'm trying to get my creative space aligned with my inner 9 year old.

I'm thinking that I might use the shape of the guard to inspire feather style darts for the transition from pink to black at the headtube. But it sounds like a big job too, so maybe just a messy splattery fade instead

I measured to see if I could fit fit a 20" tire in the back, no deal. Unless I can scrounge an 18" rim with coaster to try, this is the only way to get bigger in the rear

Great project. Especially since it promotes quality family time. He’s going to love this bike even more when it’s done.
It’s funny, I saw those grips on Temu and joked with @CRASH that he should put them on his build. Let’s just say he said “no”.

Kapow. The lil bike just fell apart

Not going to bother knocking the cups out, they'll be masked off when I paint. Headtube, seatpost, and maybe dropouts will stay pink. All the stickers will go.

Can almost fit all the useful stuff in one little bucket

He wants to use the heart pedals, I want to try these white block pedals from an old folding bike. They're mechanically better, but to him they look weird. "What even are they Dad?"

I'll clean em both up and keep the options open

There is literally nothing standing in the way of me actually finishing this one.

When I started pulling off stickers, there was a certain therapeutic aspect, like picking off scabs

Now, hours into it, covered in glue, crud jammed under my nails, fingerprints melted off, and only partway done,...
it has lost some of its a-peel

We took a few minutes to throw a couple of quick sketches together.

When he saw the stance, his jaw dropped. I think he's a little nervous, but a lot excited. It is a real bike in his mind now.
Stance and sizing test:

The test stem didn't fit the next fork, so the sketch becomes a little cruder now

The final product I envision is a combination of the two, steel wheel and tire from v1, curved black fork from v2.
However, I'm a little nervous about rideability, I can see the neighborhood kids hopping on and riding it, so a smaller front hoop is still a possibility
