OK I know a lot of you that where looking forward to this build are going to hate me for this
but I am switching the bikes name & frame
 
I found a better project to eventually use the skirt guards
Also while looking for a good project bike to put together to ride with all the choppers and stretch bikes that come out to the local rides I decided to resurrect a previous build idea

I give you Krustomized Kruizer

Huffy Frame (same as huffy radio bike)

Tank - bought on RRB (made for the huffy frame) I have only ever seen one other with the same decal but it was a ladies bike

Chainguard - Aristocrat
(mimics the fin on the car decal)

When I was doing a mock up my aunt said it reminded her of the Shasta trailer fins

Rear rack/fender - AMFlite cobra
You can see how the rear support matches the curve of the chainguard

wheels - 24" (the fender originally is for a middleweight 26 x 1.75 and does not fit a 26 x 2.125)

As you can see with the 24 x 2.125 tire it fits the fender well and I have other reasons for using the smaller size
 
Agreed, like the new bike already.
 
So during the mock up I decided to go with a street sweeper style fender
By attaching the base of the fender to the upper bracket

Has a more appropriate look for a kustom

But i am also doing it because the upper bar is a "V" shape

Here you can see hoe the v shape of the upper bar matches the v in the rear rack and peaked fenders

You can see that the rack is sitting just a bit back and the bracket is not lined up with the straight bar of the frame
Also the angle of the back of the bracket

So I will see what it will take to line them up
 
Did a bit more mocking up and discovered if I bend out the tabs on the upper fender mount and ad a spacer
The fender should indeed work as I had wanted

this is just for now I will fabricate a proper spacer later


So now you can see that the bracket lines up withe the lower straight bar on the frame and the angle of the fin

I wanted to see how close the fender would be to the ground and discovered it is close if I mock it up with a 24" fork and a 26" wheel
(with 1 .5"spacer) to mimic a
24 x 2.15 front tire

looks like I may need to make sure I use a smaller front tire or a low enough springer fork


As for a sprocket it looks like I can only use a max of 44 teeth

And so far this is the only one that size that I have
 
My dad picked up one of those tanks about 20 years ago. We had no idea what it was to until now. Very cool. Now I gotta find an old Huffy frame for the tank. This is going to be a cool build.
 
SO......does this mean you would be interested in parting with the sprocket from the first bike?:rolleyes:

As of right now No I am not interesting in parting with the sprocket
I still want to use it and the mossberg fork on a Hawthorne tank bike
But plans change If i do I will let you know first

So after spending my free time hunting the interweb for a certain part* I got nothing accomplished until now

One thing about this frame is it does n ot have the standard seat clamp

It uses a post system similar to a goose neck
and to get the seat to lay back that is exactly what I will be using
just need to find the one with the correct angle

As for the seat I found this old uncovered cruiser seat

but the cushion was a bit wider than I want so after I made a nice mess after trimming

much slimmer now I need to find it a nice cover like a Mexican blanket or other material


As a side note I had to do some drilling to one side of the frame to attach the rack
Apparently huffy used the same gusset for the rear drop outs

See the oval hole is located on the top on one side but on the bottom on the other side


*As for that certain part
I was able to finally find an acceptable item to use
(the original one I was looking for is no longer made)

I will show the item once it has arrived

All right I got some much needed goodies so now the fun begins

First things first
Originally I was inspired by the cheep mooneye disc alternative

but I wanted to use a different style lid to mimic the old kustom car hubcaps
unfortunately they seem to no longer be made and I do not have time finding 4 matching used ones

After searching all over the web I stumbled across this alternative

it is a 20" (50cm) paella pan lid
you can barely make out the 24" wheel below it

4 lids cost double the price of 4 trash can lids but less than just 1 moon disc

So why go this route

The pans are (thin) aluminum not galvanized steel
They are much smoother looking than the trash can lids
Very little modification is required to make them work on the wheels
lastly they can also be ordered in 22" (55cm) which fit a 26" rim
or 24" (60cm) which fit the 700/28" wheels

There are also manufactures of these lids in the uk for some (not all) of our overseas members

the handles are even shipped unattached so no removal required

If you said an old car antenna spring
you would be 1/2 right

Actually it is the spring (paid a 1$ for it at a swap meet) for my colorflow style beehive springer
