Got the chain guard painted. The lines aren’t perfect but its my first go at doing this and I’m pleased with the results. I did a test run on an old electra guard and it worked out well. I began removing the tape after 5 minutes as the paint was already touch dry. Just the fenders left to do now.

Nice work! The Electra guard could look great too, in a pinch. That little hit of red would POP so hard!

Perfect shakedown ride today for La Fugazi today. Inhaled a burger for lunch and headed to the bay returning through Albert Park and the F1 track. This thing flies. It motors along in 3rd gear so easily, a combination of lightweight, great tires and short chainstays. I need to dirty it up a little as it looks too new so I put it through its paces on bitumen, dirt and in water.

Its begging for the last Nexus 7 I have in my stash.

I’m still debating whether to fit the fenders.

I’m still undecided on whether to fit the fenders. I’ll paint them and decide later. A couple of options for the cream on the front of the front fender and back of the rear fender.

I’m considering using these stencils which are identical to the arrows on peaked fenders before. Alternatively I could do the cream parts like they are on green roadmaster.

For me, I like the fenders. I think they help bring out the fork and your seat springs, other shiny bits even more.
Option one looks 'faster' and more custom. (fits the Custom on the logo)
Option two looks more classic. (fits the Classic part of the logo)

You've got a Custom Classic either way you go! I guess if I was deciding, I'd go with Option One, Custom.

From the ride report, it sounds like you are enjoying the speed. With that in mind, I say "no fenders". Combined with the automotive paint theme and those sticky meats, you've got a really rad road racer going

Thanks Matti. My plan was for a tribute cruiser but I really like the look of as it was yesterday when I fitted the chainguard. I didn’t expect it to become the rad rod bike it now is. It would be a crime to slow it down with the porky prewar cwc fenders. I will fit them once they’re done and then decide.

Funny thing, today when I was hauling along the bike path beside the beach I could have done with those fenders. It rained heaps overnight and there were heaps of puddles today. I tore through a large puddle I thought was shallow and soaked my runners and the bottom of my jeans. I’ll be more cautious next time.

Its a bit late, but tip when masking is to spray an intercoat of clear. It seals the making tape and anything that bleeds under is unseen as guess what; its clear!

I do hate the butt stripe from rear tire splash () and that is the only time I would ever advocate for having something on the rear but in those cases I much prefer just a simple clip-on splash defender over a full fender

The reason the chainguard is missing from today’s photos is that it was rubbing a little. I think I used a different crank than when I slammed it together a couple of months back and forgot to centre it. Moving it to the right will fix the rubbing issue.
