working on this bike and figured it's picture worthy now. how do u guys like it? i know it's a hawthorne, just haven't figured out the year. if some one can help me out thats cool. serial number is h211479. the original fork was stripped and bent so it got scrapped. got this fork from a local shop who just so hap to have it in stock. got the bike for 10 bucks. all i did to it was new fork, fork/neck bearings, pedals, grips, chain, tires. the bars i had in a closet and cut them down 2 inches on each side. i am about to take it all apart and repaint it the same color and clear coat to make it looks shine more.

That bike is ....! I don't normally like bikes in blue but what you did to yours is awesome! The chrome springer and rim really sets it off. Good work.

Hey all! This beauty I just found at a friends house. Still looking for a year but I've gotten some good ideas from a couple generous rodders.

Hello Boys,
I'm new to this site. I'm doing a cosmetic restoration on my father's first bike. He tells me he got it on his 14th birthday back in 1948. It's a Hawthorne and it looks like the member's red bike (Fenderhole). But, my father's bike has a back rack with a light. I've looked in the Hawthorne catalog and the 1948 pictures don't match. The catalog shows a bike close to his but it's under a 1953 model year. I will have to post a picture when it's mostly complete. I found the serial number. It is G60951. And at the end there is a C stamping with a small w stamped in the middle. Can you guys tell me what year? And maybe what model?? I will post pictures later.
Thanks, Anthony

That's a sweet survivor, I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe a less modern looking seat.
Your granddaughter might have some ideas, though.

I'm pretty sure that means that it was made by Cleveland Welding...And sold with a Hawthorne badge.

Thanks.
I got some wooden dowel and cut it to length, bored them out to 7/8 i.d. and then carved the center out about 1/8 deep. Once the rough shape was done I just sanded to get the shape I had in mind and stained them. The center is just 1/8 inch square leather cord from the craft supply store. They actually have a real good feel to them.
