question about tires and wheels. I read this from front to back. I fell in love with the look. I have a fixie/ss that has 700X 25c tires, and I am going to order a set of whites, but I'd like to go as large as my wheels allow. the OD of the rim is .735. Can I fit a set of 700X35??
My hybrid has 700X38, but the OD of those wheels are .925. Will the narrow wheel accept a 35? Or should I stay narrow? Advise, please

Narrow rims will take wider tires and only change the inflated width a bit (ie, be narrower than if on a wider rim). Your limitation will mostly be the forks and frame stays as to how wide will fit, and if you are 'on the edge' your rims have to be super true. Pay some attention to chain clearance issues too.

Thanks for the reply,Crank. Its an old Concorde, and looks like tons of room for chain and fork. And at least 3/8" on each side before the tires would hit the chainstays.

Does this count?

I wish we could swap some of out british road/race frames we have here (aus) for some of the early American prewar style, or even some of the cruiser frames you guys are basically tripping over.

Recently picked up a old 60's lugged frame bike, unknown brand but havent started the rebuild yet.

I am a balloon tire bike fan through and through, but until just now, I never even knew what the guv'nor style was. I gotta say, I am really digging this look. I have a Firestone Vegabond and a Schwinn Collegiate stashed away that I may be build one of these from.

All great looking bikes.

Been collecting parts to build one. got a great vintage lightweight frame - no wjust need the right wheelset.

Which brings me to my 'newbie' question - what size wheels / tires are ppl running on these ? 700c ? or 26 x 1.75 , or 1 3/8 ? or does it really matter ? :)

I used 28" x 2,0" Schwalbe Fat Franks on my bike.
