I’m looking for some (ideally inexpensive) ideas on how to go about attaching bicycle wheels to an ATV.
The ATV’s front steering system utilizes 1” diameter spindles that are 3-1/4” long. The threaded part of the spindle is 5/8” about an inch in length. So there is a lot of length with which to work. Ideally, a hollow-hole bike hub with a 1” bore would solve this challenge, but I do not believe such a thing exists. [Adult Trike hubs run on a 15mm axel]
Btw, I also have the ATV’s hubs and rims with which to work. The ATV’s hubs’ have a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2”. The rims (wheels) are 10”.
I’ve been tossing around a few ideas, but each has its pros and cons.
Options I’ve considered so far include:
1) drilling spoke holes in the the ATV’s rims and lacing a bicycle rim to it
2) using a sprocket adaptor (such as used for motorized bicycles) on the bicycle wheel’s hub and a solid sprocket (or blank steel round) with holes drilled to match the bolt pattern on the ATV’s hub. [However this approach is very expensive; e.g. the ATV has four wheels]
3) or perhaps making a homemade hub
Anyway, I’d love to hear your ideas. Thanks.
