Looking good. I can see three parts for this build that you got from me. (saddle, bars, and forks)

New tires came in for the Higgins yesterday so, I couldn’t help but start the swap out.
The 26x 2.35 Solanas on the standard width drop center rims, fully inflated to 50psi was 2.44”

The 26x2.125 Electra Retrorunners on the same rim, fully inflated to 65psi is 2.28” which is good thing because fender fit on Higgins was SUPER tight with the Solanas

I have a few sets of those. They look cool and roll well.

I put the Solanas on the SB’s 50mm rim and fully inflated….2.8”!

What a difference rim width makes!
They look really good on these rims.

the chainstays are a bit tighter, but without lacing a hub, it’s tough to be sure, it may be an ‘air up in place’ scenario. Tough to get a good pic when you’re trying to hold everything together and snap a phot

this is DEFINITELY motivating me to get these rims stripped/polished/laced!

These look AWESOME!!!!

50 psi sounds like a lot, no? I have 24x3s in an old Westfield and have to run them at 20 psi so as not to rub, and the bike moves along great.

I aired them all the way for a ‘worst case’ scenario. I’ll probably drop them down a bit, once I see how it rides

Decided to put the restoration of the fork on the back burner and focus on the wheelset. I can always go back to the fork, once they’re out for lacing/truing at some point.
Finally found a stripper that at least softened the paint to the point where I could scrape the majority of it off. This stuff stinks like it has Methylene Chloride in it, but…anyway here’s what I used.

After I scraped off what I could I went at one of the rims with a drill mounted flap disc and a wire wheel. One stripped, one to go. Then the FUN part, trying to polish these alloys. I know others have gotten a mirror finish, I’ll try my best 😉
