Made my 1st custom head badge

I now many of these have been posted before but it's pretty cool to do and thought I would share.

Here are some photos of the acid etched badge.

Heat transferred to tin, should have used aluminum.

Etching in acid mixture:

After some trimming, painting and light sanding.

Finished badge on bike. Made from tin and etched with acid. Probably use a lighter metal like aluminum or copper next time. The etching wasn't as deep as I'd like it to be. Took a little trial and error but once you get it it turns out great. Not sure why I chose tin but it worked ok for now.

Thanks, the design idea comes from the grave stones of the 1700's. The winged skull represented the soul flying up to heaven.

What solution are you using?

I have used ferric chloride and PnP resist for my brass badges.

I heard caution should be used ( I'm sure you take precautions) with certain chemicals and aluminium as it will out gas hydrogen.... it may have been caustic soda... can't recall.

BTW... nice job. I'm diggin your logo.

I do headbadges....more diesel punk look than yours, but your piece is OUTSTANDING!! Nice work!

I am using a 2 parts hydrogen peroxide 1 part muradic acid and soaking for about 20 or so minutes. I may use a tad bit more acid in the next attempt but I really want to try copper or brass. Yours looks awesome.

I designed the artwork in a graphic program then printed it out on a piece of scrap label paper backing. The slick side. I then used my heat press to transfer it to the metal. Worked like a charm.
