No progress since the last post, had to service a car, rotate some tires and it looks like I will be taking my wife to the dentist again today, so unlikely to be progress today either...

Thanks everyone! They managed to save Heidi's tooth, so that is good news!
Left me pretty worn out for today, which I was planning as a big build day, but still made some progress which is good to keep the build moving along. No welding though, as I could not be bothered to putting overalls on...
First off found a pair of rear MTB hubs to use for the wheels, had to strip the freewheels off with my trusty modified BBB remover: (Will add it to the tool thread when I am done here.)
Why two rear hubs you ask? Well you will have to wait and see...
Next up I stripped down the donor frame ready to strip the unneeded tubing away, check out the length of that seat pole!
The stem had cracked out in the fork tube, so had to remove the bolt completely and leave the wedge in the forks, not a problem as they were a bit bent and will not be used on this build anyway:
Removed the stem I will be using from the BMX bike it was on, I actually bought the whole bike just for this stem to be used on this build:
These are the apes I will be using, I will have to cut out the raised 1" centre and weld in a 7/8" to suit the stem though, still, it will be worth it, very cool original apes:
Yes that is a "Hole Nother Level" Shimano 3 speed grip shift, but it will not be used on this build:
Some needed progress there, it may not look like much but it should make it much more productive when the time comes to use the pieces...

Im in the same boat as Luke,similar to oz,we are just coming into spring here in NZ plus I am near the top of the north island so its hotter than down south,luckily with changing climates I have had mild summer and winter last year,but maybe a hot one this year,oz is even hotter than us,don't envy my friend across the ditch,too hot
Yes, as Endlesschain said, beginning of spring here, it has been a slow start though, still cold, today was great though!

PROGRESS!
Started with one of the rear hubs, knocked the threaded end off one side:
To be replaced with this non threaded one from another hub:
Welded the spokes for the smaller wheel to the centre tube then slid it over the hub and re-installed the end cap, then placed in the rear of the frame to give it a spin to check for true:
Give it a spin:
Came out well so slid the centre spider into the rim and tacked it, spun it up again, made some adjustments, spun it again and then welded it up:
Added some weld between the rim and cover strip to correspond to the spoke location to add strength too, pretty happy with the way the welds went, considering the gaps and chrome I had to work around:
Then on to the much harder rear wheel, started with widening the hub, I am sure you have all seen me do this before, so will skip that explanation:

Finished for the day:

Well done ! i like how you welded the spoke to look like diamond shape instead of flat looking like square 
These may be your best wheels yet!! How much do they weigh?
