Hank, I really like the white rim in the rear, makes that white wall look huge! Maybe in the front paint that one all red? It will give that cool thickslick more of a 'tough' look.

Here's my Hawth - Rod build ( '59 Hawthorne) I did a few years ago. I sold it to a friend who added the apes and the bmx style stem, and we put the sprung cruiser seat on there for him. I painted the rims white to get that massive white wall look:

You get a little bit of an idea what the bmx stem looks like compared to the more traditional stem I had on there with the rounder bars originally. I always think of bars and stem as a combo, they work together.

Keep those ideas flowing and....

GT Smoothie 26x2.5 tire arrived today. Because the lettering is darker on the smoothie, I’m okay with the white sides on the rim. But I may do what @OddJob suggested and go full red on the front. I will eventually find a different stem for the handlebars. And I am leaning towards the red 26” banana seat instead of the flames at this point. I can always use the flame seat when I redo my sons Huffy Sit-on-it.

Wow! That Smoothie is perfect on there. I like the nice tight fit in the frame and the total 'slick' look. I mean, now that I see it, you could leave both rims like they are too. You've got lots of options.

Looking good! That tire combo looks great. I agree with OJ on wheel colors, they look good as is or do white & red, it's all good. Checking out different seat and stem options will be interesting to see. An 'interesting' or wild chain ring could be cool too.

Decided today to get It rideable. I put the original crankset back on as I like the mag style. Put on the white chain that was prev on the bicycle. Added the Wellgo bear trap pedals and connected the coaster brake. Oh, and took @OddJob s advice and finished the wrap out the right hand side.

Those square bear claws are really cool. I love them on the last ride I used them on.

People ask me what kind of pedal they are. I tell them they are square bears, and they get a confused look on their face.
😎

Changed out the seat and added the grips. I like the look and the seat positions is much better when riding. Only thing is, the seat is too clean, so need to dirty it up a bit I think. 😂

Still need to change out the stem and have some things to tweak, but definitely pleased with the build thus far.

A nice short zero rise stem and I think you're there 👍

Lookin' good man! On the seat, I have used a 100% acrylic paint in a tube , like a grey or brown color, and rubbed it in with a rag. Keep rubbing till all the excess is gone. It just 'dulls' or takes down the color a bit, gives it some age.

Here's what I did with my Shelby Woody Flyer 'naner; from brand new black to aged in minutes.
