I figured it was a 13/16th's but I tried a different seatpost from my schwinn the other night and it was too small. I measured the monark's current (short/cut) seatpost and I think it was something like 21.5mm (right between a 13/16ths and 7/8ths). Is that right? Did monark have their own sizing?

If so, where can I get a longer seatpost?

thanks!

You are correct that it is a tweener. The inside diameter of the seat tube (or pipe in this case) is really close if not proper for a 7/8. The problem is that the flashing where the pipe is seamed together protrudes quite a bit. I think Monark had to have a seatpost made that was smaller in diameter to make it fit. If I remember correctly it's like like 13.5/16ths. You wouldn't think that would make a much of a difference but boy does it.

I was able to to use a rat-tail file on the seat "tube" seam and get a 7/8 ths seat post in there but boy was it a pain. A brake hone or the like could make the job easier. It's that or go with the 13/16ths and the shim like the previous poster said.

If I remember correctly I tried to find one in metric sizeing with no luck. Another option would be to file down an aluminum 7/8 seatpost.

Good luck.

Yup. I re-measured it over lunch and it is a 21.5mm (7/8 is 22.2mm and 13/16 is 20.6mm)

I guess I could try a .8 mm shim slightly trimmed (a 25.4-->26.2mm shim).

I was having the same problem last night , now I know I'm not crazy , too bad I didn't get the crank and chainring I was told came with this bike , or I could be riding it this weekend :(
