This bike just keeps evolving! I found a BELL clamp on rack and a set of HJ platform pedals at the Menasha WI swap Saturday. Only $5 each!

And put em on the bike Sunday!

Nice to have a rack on this one, and ball bearing alloy pedals are great upgrade from the plastic ones.

Updates.
Bike was laid up for a couple of years after I robbed some of the headset for another bike.

Reciently decided to take it out of the shed and upgrade a few things.
Used Cane Creek headset and used Red Line stem.

Going to change chain ring. I thought the crank bearinbs needed adjustment...
To my surprise, the bearing cages are ripped and loose balls bouncing around.

Fixed cup is stuck, realized I never removed it last time I replaced similar damaged bearings before!

Looks like it may have been crossthreaded by a Chinese assembler or a careless previous owner.

Usually I can remove these with a large Crescent wrench and a little PBBlaster. After it tried to slip off I used a pipe wrench and some heat from a propane torch.

Gonna let it soak overnight. Hope it comes off and leaves some threads to hold a sealed BB cartridge!

After much heating, pounding and wrenching, I figured continued attempts will wreck something so I took a big clamp and forced the cup in to make the gap as small as possible and try to true the cup up a bit.

Also ground some clearance on the axle to prevent binding.

I wanted to use a 1by alloy crank I bought on a Amazon, but it is a 1/8 chain so no go. I'm gonna try a used Shimano crankset so I can try a 48t chainring.

Some test riding needed to see if bottom bracket will last. If it holds up I will do a repaint.

Updates to this bike. Stripped and painted frame. After another bb bearing failure, I decided screwed up bearing cup had to go - if it wouldn't come off or broke was gonna trash it. After some cuts with a cut off wheel it came off and surprise! Threads were ok and sealed bb fit right in. Added 44t single chain wheel and shifts better than ever. Also in process of adding a NOS sun tour fork and sealed headset.
