BO15 Monty-the full Monty

[late for dinner]

That's a very 'Full' Monty front end design that you dared to pull off.

Well folks, the time has come come to go the full Monty. I back halved a German Executive bike for the rear triangle and the coaster hub for the matching 29er rear wheel i laced up for this bike. I cut it off right where the seat stay is brazed to the seat tube, and about 3/4 of the chain stays as well. Didn't get a pic of that, as things were happening very quickly at this point.

Once removed, i lined it up to where I wanted it to live, marked where the bolt holes would go, then grabbed the trusty torch and heated up the metal and hammered it flat. Drilled 3/8" holes for the seat post and the dropouts on the blue frame and bolted it together with carriage bolts.

The next problem lies with my math skills. Or lack thereof. The axle was about 2" away from the new dropout. Not to mention that it was now vertical. FAAKKKKK!!!!!!!!! So i made a steel plate sandwich so i could bolt on a new horizontal dropout onto the new dropout, lol. If there was ever an award for a shotgun surgeon, i think i would be a frontrunner. Torched some metal bits vaguely to size, then spent several hours grinding and filing it into shape.

But finally, it's all bolted together and i was able to run the chain. It's 95% good. The pin heads on the chain JUST rub on the frame, creating a nice pitter patter as it goes around.

And it's a rideable bike that I'm taking to a local bike show later today. It's not finished quite yet, but pretty close. Better pics later. I'm tired, Sarge

It's around 1/8" of clearance. We'll see how it fits on a hot day

tire pressure will be critical.

I threw a beat up layback seat post on it from another failed project and it helps with the leg room. Now to do something with that unpadded, brilliantly engineered Huffy seat that doesn't even come close to matching the human anatomy, much less a man's particular needs.View attachment 133241

I forged some brackets for the headlight and chain guard tonight, and mounted the headlight as well. It's a cop spotlight, I'm guessing from the 50's, and it still works. I need to make a battery compartment and wire in a switch, then the bike should be finished

Thank you very much. It hit 92° on Saturday. The bike was in the sun all day and it still has the same clearance, Clarence. The tire has 40 psi in it ATM, so it should be alright

That 11th hour idea, the one that should have seemed so obvious but you didn't realize you couldn't live without it until just now? I just had it. I was looking for a place to store the battery that wouldn't take away from the style of the bike and it hit me like a sledgehammer. Why not make a fiberglass tank, from scratch, complete with electronics, with less than two weeks to go?

Well, if it's not one thing... Was riding the bike to the hardware store and nailed a pot hole. Snapped the front axle in half and bent the left dropout a little. Luckily the tire didn't grab the triple trees or I'd be pretty bad off.

It’s going to save you some $$$$ on grinding wheels and cutting wheels. Plus when my daughters start bring boys over GRRRRRR! That’s how I’m going to meet them, Torch in one hand and a 8lb beater in the other!!! Sit him down on my ANVIL and have a heart to heart

Pretty much finished the bike as far as it's going at this time. Rebuilt the front hub, mounted the taillights and took a hammer to the stays to gain a smidgen of clearance. Going to take the final pictures tomorrow, but here's how it looks today

Muy caliente! I love the front end, those bars work so well with the triple tree, and the light is icing! Guard is a nice customization, makes the bike look less "off the shelf"
