I got the hubs disassembled and all the parts and bearings in a bucket of simple green, I’ll let them soak overnight then start cleaning..

Degreasing is done
IMG_5804.jpeg
the only thing left assembled are the fender braces, flat head screws and square nuts instead of rivets so I’m not sure if that’s original or an old time repair. All but two came apart easily, those 2 got some PB blaster and some time, I’ll try again later
IMG_5815.jpeg
then the braces will go in a wood bleach bucket with the other rusty parts . Next project will be scrubbing the frame so I can start putting stuff back together

It looks like Ms Higgins is cleaning up well!

I hope to have a similar pile sometime today. :)

I got sidetracked away from this project for a while but I want to finish it. I cleaned up the rims I want to use, one has more rust so I’ll put that in the back where the skirt guards will hide it a bit.

I got the front wheel assembled tonight, I’ll try to do the rear tomorrow then assemble the hubs next

Tomorrow turned into next month but I got the rear wheel assembled

I scrubbed the frame with steel wool and WD40 now I can start putting stuff back together
IMG_6032.jpeg
bearing cups and forks are done! I’ve got two weeks left, if nothing stupid happens I think I can get this finished…

Thanks guys. The tires on this thing were dry rotted and mismatched and the tubes didn’t hold air. Other than buying the bike itself I haven’t spent any money on this yet and I’m trying to continue this theme. The only good pair of tires I have in the pile are 1.75 whitewalls, I want bigger tires so into the shed to see what I can swipe off another bike. I’ve got a Murray middleweight with a front wheel that needs to be rebuilt and a rear wheel I want to steal for a different project so it’s giving up its clay colored tires, I think they look good with the red
IMG_6069.jpeg
it also kindly donated matching seat, pedals and grips, I just need to make a seat post, the lucky 7 hits the seat frame before I can set it to a good angle
IMG_6073.jpeg
the stem cleaned up nice, and these are the bars I wanted to use on my last build off bike but they didn’t work with the slingshot stem. With the chrome wheels I wanted shiny bars, I’ll use the crusty ones that came off on a different bike

one week left!!! Starting to look like a bike…

Clay tires and matching seat and grips rule! Love all the dark red hues.

I would not have guessed that those tires would look that great on that red bike. Killer.
I wasn’t sure at first either but I’m happy with it. I bought the seat from someone here a few years ago, it looked way more red in the for sale picture, but it’s faded to almost match these tires. I forgot where the pedals came from, and the clay color Thompson grips complete the set.

Cleaning the kickstand that came with the bike was the last piece of the puzzle
IMG_6080.jpeg
it’s raining today and I’ve got thanksgiving dinner in a few hours so it won’t be today but I’ve just got to test ride and take some outdoor pictures and this thing is done, thanks for watching 😁

Dagnabbit that is one cool ride, Schultzie! Ms Higgins gonna grab some attention on the street for sure.
The red and clay hues really go well together to give it that monochromatic look of cohesion. :113:
