Here we go then...

Its an old 24" bmx that will have a new life as my commuter. Internal gearing / braking, nanner, and hi rise bars are on the menu.

So, I bought these wheels for cheaper than I could purchase the hubs themselves. I think a bike share program fell through. They are 26" (559) wheels, so only the hubs will be used. I didn't know what they would be used for when purchased, and didn't plan to disassemble them, but the hubs will be perfect for this project. Sturmey Archer RXL-RD5 rear and XL-FDD front.

Pictured here are the donor wheels along with the new recipient parts. SE Racing J24SG rims with non machined sidewalls, perfect! It was not easy finding the correct length spokes (226 & 224). Seems that there is a gap between 212 and 228 from my regular sources. JBI had some, but only in 13 gauge, 2.34 rather than 2.0. But thicker spokes are cooler.... I hope they fit the hubs. Also, nippies were not easy to find either. Ebay to the rescue... I hope they fit the rim. :crazy2:

I like your style. Excellent parts line up, can't wait to see more.

I have a sturmey 5 spd internal freewheel on the shelf, all new wheel laced on a 20" need to figure out the shifter. Did yours come with shifter? I can't see the wheel pic

Thanks! No, the wheels did not come with a shifter, but luckily my co-worker has one from a previously abandoned build, yay!

Hmmm.... hand built wheels are always superior to machine built. Heres one good example.

Heres a comparison of spokes. 14g vs 13g or 2.0mm vs 2.34mm diameter.

I'm into BMX muscle, but I cant see your images, nor can I copy past the links.

@S.P.K , what method are you using to upload the images to the site. Are you using Google photos for storage?

After some quiet contemplation, I remembered another 24" bike that has been built over and over again with the end process never exactly feeling "right". So the build will continue.

Here we have a Team Murray FX240.

The frame is the important part here. None of those parts will stay, maybe the bars.

Fork and Tires I'm hoping fit.

This bike has been hanging around for years and years. Usually I can remember exactly where and when I procured bikes / parts, but for the life of me this one is a mystery. I have no idea when I found / received it. I'm nearly positive it was a salvaged curb find. We have a "Spring Cleanup" where people are allowed to put crap on the curb and the city picks it up after a week or two. Its goldmine for the Trash is Treasure types.
