Hello all,
I've been browsing these and other custom bike forums for a while, all the time dreaming about building my own bike. A few months ago I purchased a 140A DC inverter arc welder and set about making the dream a reality. I gathered many old bikes from bulk rubbish for free and started cutting them up. The bike has been created from the front end, forks and handlebars of an old road bike, the second half of the top tube and rear end of the bike from a girls hybrid bike and the lower tube from a bed frame. Currently I need to get a few chains spliced together and organize a single freewheel for the back wheel. It would probably be wise to re-mount the brake posts so I can fit a rear brake caliper as with the 26" wheels I'm using they do not line up.
Here are a few photos I've managed to snap along the way so far:
Cranks fitted, seat changed to a more comfortable one:
After this I modified the handlebars by bending them in a vice and then cutting some riser bars in half and welding them on. Also the seat felt a little far back and perhaps a little high, so I cut the seat tube and welded the post horizontally in it's place.
It is a very comfortable bike, at the moment all I have is a small hill to roll down towards my driveway but it feels great the whole way down.
Also I can't think of a name so far, so any ideas would be appreciated.
