Hello all,

I've been browsing these and other custom bike forums for a while, all the time dreaming about building my own bike. A few months ago I purchased a 140A DC inverter arc welder and set about making the dream a reality. I gathered many old bikes from bulk rubbish for free and started cutting them up. The bike has been created from the front end, forks and handlebars of an old road bike, the second half of the top tube and rear end of the bike from a girls hybrid bike and the lower tube from a bed frame. Currently I need to get a few chains spliced together and organize a single freewheel for the back wheel. It would probably be wise to re-mount the brake posts so I can fit a rear brake caliper as with the 26" wheels I'm using they do not line up.

Here are a few photos I've managed to snap along the way so far:

Cranks fitted, seat changed to a more comfortable one:

After this I modified the handlebars by bending them in a vice and then cutting some riser bars in half and welding them on. Also the seat felt a little far back and perhaps a little high, so I cut the seat tube and welded the post horizontally in it's place.

It is a very comfortable bike, at the moment all I have is a small hill to roll down towards my driveway but it feels great the whole way down.

Also I can't think of a name so far, so any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: My first build - burrito style

Nice looking bike! I just kind of finished up my project not too long ago and just started helping a friend with one. Once we finish his bike I plan on building either something very much like yours. Or maybe a Cargo bike/Bike truck... Although the more burrito style bikes I see the more I want one!

Re: My first build - burrito style

Thanks guys!

Graylock, I do have more bikes - 2 bmx bikes, one downhill bike and a road bike. After this bike is finished though I feel I may have to build another one. I'm not sure what style just yet, perhaps something a little more practical. I've just enjoyed this project so much that doing it all over again sounds great.

Re: My first build - burrito style

Okay, been quite a while since i've posted on this bike, but progress has slowly been made since then until it is now finally done. I had it rolling for a period to test the frame out before i stripped all the paint off and cleaned her up for clear coating. After i was satisfied nothing was going to break, I stripped the bike down to bare metal and gave it a few coats of clear paint. I'm very happy with the final result, the bike is very ride-able and I think it looks great! Anyway, here's some photos to update this thread:

Completely ride-able, and just before I fitted a front brake:

Paint stripped off and headlight mount mocked up:

And as it sits now, finished!

oh, I decided to keep the stickers on the front of the bike and name it the Indi 500. I think it has the right kind of ring for the bike. Well that's it, time to start on the next one!

Nice work, that head lamp looks great on there! At first I wasn't too sure about the handlebars, but now after looking at them a couple of times I start to like them. :)
