hi guys! i already started the build on this schwinn bf goodrich straightbar, serial no. E211579, i think its a 48', based on the schwinn charts. found her months ago together with my Flexmaster build. here's the link when i found her.

basically it has the correct fenders, chainguard, seat, badge.. has the roadmaster springer, crank and sprocket, wheels, handle bar, stem are aftermarket. then i added added a schwinn fork, stem and made a mockup..

days after getting this schwinn home, i spotted a tanker bike, which i also posted in bike id, that has the straightbar tank. it took me months before the old fella gave it away.all the while i was thinking it is a prewar schwinn because the tank fits very nicely, with no clearance issues. here it is when i got it. link is here:http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=57908

i removed the tank, and it has rust issues, which i addressed with a steel epoxy and it worked great, then i had primer on it. i also stripped everything, frame, fenders. the tank fits well on the frame.

and another mock up, also installed an old wald basket. borrowed the S2 wheels from my DX, borrowed the seat from my westfield, then took it for a spin..

right now, the bike is disassembled and primered everything.. this is my very first try at restoration, i hope i get to finish this one.. i will post some update tomorrow.. :D :D

I'm working on pretty much the same situation. But I'm trying to distress mine so that it looks original but aged. I think you will find this to be an easy resto. The details on the tank are easy to tape off and the decals are easy to apply. I like these straightbar schwinns and now own 5 of them. I'm not sure what that prewar frame you have is, but if you post close up pic of the front of the headtube, the headbadge mounting hole positions might help ID the bike. Good luck and maybe we can exchange tips on our builds.

thanks ozz, yeah i think it will be an easy resto too, as i've nearly, just nearly completed all the basic parts on it. Glad to know that you're a straightbar fan like me. :D About that prewar, i'll get a close up pic on the holes. i was thinking it was a colson, probably a ladies one, converted to mens nicely, that the tank fits snugly on it. i saw some welding on the seat tube and downtube on it.

update.. update... update....
managed to primer everything, filled some bondo, sanded everything, and i realized i hate doing this kind of stuff. it eats my patience. :x
i promised myself i'll just finish this one.. i won't do it again.(fingers crossed)

Bought some painters' tape and managed to do the tank, fenders, fork and the chainguard. i forgot to take pics of the taping portion.. its my first try at painting and its worse than i expected, had to redo them 2-3 times. but here they are.

Nice color choice ! no doubt that's gonna be a sweet bike

thanks man, i had to pick from 3 rattle can colors, and chose this one, was also amazed at how it went out. thanks! :D

i did the frame with the help of Cherryboxx.
He made the stencils on this one out of blue painters tape. final touch of blue is in the works.

uuuuhhhhhh.....WOW!

Keep up the AWESOME work brother!

Cheers,

thanks Doc! :D

i'll add white walls, all black seems to make it a prewar.. i'll have the wheels laced and trued, will be using a Bendix coaster, and MCC hub upfront. one of the S2's isn't ridable, anyone have a spare? :D

That's a tough decision. I like both ways, and right now I have a tendency to steer away from whitewalls on my builds. But I think yours might need whitewalls. If white wasn't one of the frame colors I would probably go with the black though.

I'm with ozz on the tires, I don't usually care for whitewalls but that bike is crying out for them. Great work. Looks sweet.
