I came across this rusting in one of my neighbor's yards where it had been for the past decade. I've always been intrigued by these and this was as good of an excuse to try a rat rod build as any. I actually have no idea what make the frame is, but it doesn't matter. This was all about having fun.

The bike...

Some Details...

The rear end. I bobbed the fender and polished the wheel set as much as possible. There is still quite a bit of rust that is there to stay. Gives it character...

Front end. Used a repop monarch fork. Yeah, I read the reports about these but it had the right look and I'm not going to be hucking this off anything so...

And finally a parting shot of my favorite klunker/mountain bike (just for fun).

Thanks and Certainly...

I'm afraid it's a klunker in appearance only. It is one of two currently in existence and was built by Tony Pereira in Portland OR. It's older brother is Tony's personal bike and won the best mountain bike award at the NAHBS in 2007. I've attached some older pictures of the bike when I had it configured as a single speed. It is currently being run geared (age related), but you can see some of the details. Tony is an artist for certain...

Thanks again to you both for the kind welcome!

Nice job on your first build. The simplicity of the colors and parts is perfect, then the anno red chainring is the bright spot.

The Klunker/MTB is a work of art.

Everyone, thanks again for the compliments on both bikes.

The nice thing about the Pereira is it actually rides as good as it looks. I'm pretty sure Tony mixes in some frame builder's magic with every fillet brazed joint. That said, I'm running a shorter wheel base and it climbs like beast while being compliant thanks to the truss fork he built. Great ride and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks again,

Tim
