Those are SPEED HOLES!!
Soma is still making Major Taylor bars, they're named in honor of Marshall "Major" Taylor Made from chrome-plated Tange steel, a replica of a 1930's bar that has been hanging on display in legendary Oscar Juner's old shop in San Fran
They're under forty bucks.

I got the pedals and the brake levers from this Univega that I got for free. I am using modern pedals and brake levers on it. The bars and stem are not stock either.

Talk about SPEED HOLES!

The Orgin8 levers are an $18 rip off of these Tektro TRP levers. The TRP levers are $60 per pair!

If ever there was an appropriate application for those bars, it's an early Iver racer, but the bars on it are original, so I'm leaving them on (I don't ride it long distances, anyway). If I renovate another road bike, though . . .

I do have a full on GREEN gravel bike. The bars on my Univega are from this bike. I got the Major Taylor bars used for $30. They had been in a crash and had some scratches on them.

I did install a chain, shift cable, and bar ends in the time in between the posts on this thread. I can not find a seat post that will fit. I decided to buy some cottered cranks and use those for that look.

I did find some legitimate 3 arm cottered cranks from the 50s last night that I will pick up tomorrow. I will need to find a chainring for them. These are not the ones I found. The ones I found are in almost new condition.

I think it would look more Major Taylor ish with cottered cranks and no front derailleur. Similar to a 30s-40s racer.

You're right, it would, but those old ancient bikes had way different frame geometry and details. All you can do is try to replicate the style, unless you actually find a real one.

I got some cottered cranks and a chainring set for them. The cranks were missing a screw so I did a hack on the top one.

The shiny cranks were weird and required a larger spindle and smaller cotter pins that I could not find. I traded them in for ones that work. These have NICE patina. I traded the Kyokuto pedals for some Lyotards.

I installed the drive side crank. I like the patina on them. I need a different diameter cotter pin for the non drive side. I have always loved the look of the higher end cottered cranks, but have never found a use for them. This bike looks awesome with these cranks.
