Let me see if I remember correctly from Basic. Don't look at the explosion as it may blind you. Try to find a hasty cover position, anything to protect from the on-coming blast. A hole is good and underground is best. Lie down facing away from blast with boots together, mouth open to equalize internal organs from air pressure. Hold on for dear life. After initial blast, recover and lie down facing opposite direction (towards ground zero) and prepare for return shock wave blast. Or something like that. Of course we all joked and said, bend over, stick your head between your knees and kiss your a double s good bye.

Oh yeah, that too. And the drill where we were all lined up in the hallway, crouched and heads down against the wall lockers. This was supposed to keep us away from the shattering window glass in the classrooms. The last one we did was when I was in 6th grade. So about 11 or 12 years old. Some 45 years ago in 1980.
